Are we sure this is an antichoking device? Im pretty sure I saw the same thing in the grocery store and they called it a mini plunger. Same thing I spose, just be careful if you use it twice for different purposes. I mean do it, just don’t tell.
Just remember which end you used it on last.
Yeah, no… if you have someone choking this will probably save a life. NOT intended for any plumbing interventions…
OH! A throat plunger! And they say I don’t need anymore tools…
No, I’m not going to ask that question.
I think the point is to compress the air-column in the device FIRST, then apply it over the mouth/nose and UNCOMPRESS the device to cause a vacuum to pull out the blockage… don’t want to simply force [whatever] farther into/down the airway (as the graphic above seems to show)… it does take some thought. Valuable if the situation ever arises.
Oh, you’re right of course FL. I guess I have crisis fatigue from taking care of me and mine.
Thanks for being a consistent poster and being on the right side.
If nobody’s told you lately, you show up and make a difference, thanks.
It says it has a check valve, but there’s no way I’d use that on a person. It’s not like a person is a mechanical object. “Oh, wait right there. I have a special tool for that.”
It’s a ridiculous device, but technically it might be better than nothing. If it pushes the object into their lung, it clears the airway, but they’ll have to be put under and a specialist will have to fish it out with a bronchoscope. I have no particular medical expertise and I probably have no idea what I’m talking about, but I do have a child that once had to undergo this procedure.
Any basic Red Cross training teaches you how to do the Heimlich Manoeuvre. What a gimmick.
Edit: I just noticed that the box says, “CHOKING DEVICE”
The air-fuel ratio has to be just right
I still wouldn’t use it, but I’m glad it worked for them.
Most people I know still refer to it as such, though you are correct. The last time I re-certified was well after 2006.
