If this had cellular, maybe.
You might want to double-check the listing details; This model features both advanced Wi-Fi, as well as 5G cellular capability (provided that you enable that with the mobile service carrier of your choice).
Hope that helps
Apple’s website lists the MSRP of this model (iPad Mini 6th Gen, 64GB, Wi-Fi + Cellular) as $649, not $699.
How is 64 GB even allowed in a “premium” device anymore? Should START at 256 GB.
C’mon, Apple!
If you don’t need cellular, you can get the 256gb model for $549.99 at BestBuy on sale.
I’ve been waiting for a good deal on the ipad mini 6 but this aint it. Every review video I’ve seen has stated that 64gb just isn’t enough space especially since close to 15gb are already used. A lot of them couldn’t even update the OS because they used too much space already. And Best Buy has the wifi version with 256gb for $530. And Amazon has this same tablet in more colors for literally 20 bucks more. I’m a little bummed Woot
This is not the deal you think it is.
Storage is so incredibly cheap it is absolutely pathetic that we are still dealing with such low numbers in devices. The manufacturers do this because they know they can get away with it and it sounds like a lot to the layman. Minimum storage should be at least 128 but preferably 256. Not to mention it should be that as free storage when you buy the device. If the OS uses of 15 GB then it should have its own subsection and not be counted towards the sold storage count.
Edit: voice to text corrections from when I was half asleep
It does, from the description this is the Wi-Fi + 5G model.
Don’t you know that the pointless prices are inflated or the highest original MSRP to make you think you are getting a sweet deal?
Ugh, I too have been waiting for an iPad mini to use for traveling with Google Fi. The storage is just too low on this one tho.
Because Apple
256gb storage would make this a tempting deal. But only 64gb and supposedly new iPads in the Spring, not sure if this is worth it.
I have this model and storage is fine for me. I guess it depends on how you use it. I also have an M1 iPad Pro so it’s not my only iPad.
I just got my mini 6 a few days ago. Got it here on woot. It was the day that the 10% up to $20 was going on. In my opinion you must have cellular or it’s not practical. This one for sale does have it and 64gb is enough so long as you have iCloud storage. It kinda helps you prioritize your memory by making you delete things you really don’t need anymore
I bought ALL of mine with 256 GB, directly from Apple. If you buy elseware, you will usually be offered lower specs.
Why are these so expensive? Do Ipads do anything different than other tablets?
iPads do not do anything that many other tablets can’t also do. However, they have arguably earned a reputation at doing many things better, for many years. I can try to give you a few points of my own opinion, having owned several iPads and several Android tabs, but it ends up boiling down to preference in many instances now. Years ago, iPad was decidedly better equipped, but some of that gap has closed.

iPadOS
Apple has arguably the best supported software platform, with the longest promised lifespan of software updates. Android (specifically Samsung) has been getting better, but if I still have usable Apple iPad hardware from over six years ago, that is impressive in the mobile space. And Adobe, Microsoft, media apps like Netflix, Facebook, etc., all often get updates first. You live in a “walled garden” of curated apps only, but they’re generally fairly safe, and high quality. Not always, but often. -
Hardware
Not everyone is going to be trying to edit cinematic films on their tablet, or using massive spreadsheets. And arguably the software is not really meant to do that - But the A15 in this iPad is as capable as almost anything out there. At less than half the price of the pro iPad models with the more advanced M1 and other upgrades, this is a very compelling total package of processing, screen, robust tablet body, and many well considered accessories that can be added, like the pencil with its magnetic storage and charging. Very few tablets easily match, and even fewer beat something like this for hardware specs in a way that would be meaningful for most users. -
Universality
I already mentioned that the software gets updated, or prioritized for Apple products first - Same thing goes for accessories, whether that is cases, skins, screen protectors, etc. That generally equates to things being less expensive, and more readily accessible.
Android / Samsung
I will basically only mention Samsung, since almost no other manufacturers have a compelling offering that I’ve seen for while. And they are getting better at supporting their hardware with software updates over time.

Customization
Android’s biggest advantage is in being more open, with more options to install whatever you want, from whatever source you want. You want to modify a core function of the operating system, like how the notifications come in? You can do it, or even just install a different version of the OS. -
Cost
While it may be argued that the cheaper tablets are not as powerful, or as deluxe, there are some great tablets that Samsung has, both modern, and from a year or two ago, which can be had for $100-200 less than this. Then again, you could buy an Amazon Fire HD tablet for sub-$100, but then the differences in quality and overall platform become much more apparent.
TL/DR:
This is arguably a decent deal, especially if you have friends or family with Apple devices, since interoperability is the hidden benefit that really becomes a thing the more you are willing to do things according to the Tim Cook and Apple paradigm. I personally use an iPad Pro as my primary tablet, although I keep a foot in both worlds as I like to do development work that requires awareness of how things work in both camps. This form factor is almost more of an overgrown phablet (phone/tablet), but I have had almost every iteration of the iPad Mini from their beginnings, and I keep loving them. I have generally loved my Android phones, but I have never been quite as enamored with a Samsung Galaxy tab, or any competitor tablet. At least not since the early efforts that Google had with their long-dead “Nexus” offerings. But ultimately, do you like the open, and customizable Android approach, or are you good with the simpler, but well-curated Apple experience? Do you want more options for unusual sizes or form factors, or do you want easy access to accessories and software that will “just work” for many years of software updates? Neither is just right - It’s whether or not you prefer one flavor or the other.
Good luck
They do it knowing it’s an unusable amount of storage so they can put “starting at $549” in their ads.
