Apple Thunderbolt 4 (USB‑C) Pro Cable

Apple Thunderbolt 4 (USB‑C) Pro Cable

Clarification please! Does this include more than one cable? I would hope so for almost $40!! Also, in the description it says “this 1.8-meter cable”. But directly below, it states - “this 1-meter cable”. Finally, in the SPEC: In The Box section it states: “(1) Apple Thunderbolt 4 (USB‑C) Pro Cable (1 m) (Bulk Packaging) MU883AM/A”
As often happens, Woot confuses me at times. This is one of them. Can someone please clarify the length of cable, if you get one of one size & one of the other, or just one measly one meter cable for almost $40. Thank you very much!

I imagine, if it is a Thunderbolt cable, it is not allowed to be any longer than one meter. It’s also a very expensive cable, so if it is more than one cable for that price, it’s a VERY good deal!

Secondly, if someone doesn’t know why they need a Thunderbolt cable, why they’re expensive, and why it needs to be short, they are probably looking for a standard USB-C cable and should not buy this.

I see it says normal price is $69 here. But on the apple store website it’s listed as $129 for the 1.8m cable. $159 for the 3m cable.

Thunderbolt/USB 4 cables are very expensive because they support 40 Gbps throughput. That’s a LOT more than your conventional USB 3 or typical USB-C cables. There’s sophisticated electronics in each connector to ensure reliable data transfer at that speed. And then there’s the Apple quality tax. All you need to know is covered here:

And as a dividend, they can handle lots more than the 60W charging that good, conventional cables offer. See those 96W and 140W Apple chargers? Yep, a Thunderbolt can handle them. (Up to 100w I think unless otherwise specified. Plenty for a MBP.)

If you look at MacBook, Mac Mini, and Mac Studio specs, they come with Thunderbolt 3 and 4 connections for hooking up big, fast NVMe drives for additional storage.* I have a 2TB Western Digital NVMe with my Mac Mini for daily backups. Thunderbolt cables are also sorta required equipment for hooking up a Mac to a USB-C HD or UHD monitor. Need a cable that sends all those pixels through at 60Hz or 90Hz.

Woot had some Thunderbolt 3 cables for … $14.99 each? a while back. I bought three. Generally, Thunderbolt 3 and 4 are equivalent, but I’ve been looking at lusting for this pretty black woven Thunderbolt cable in my shipping cart for a week. (Woot has had and currently has some 2m USB-C cables on offer if you need, um, length. I bought two a few months back because … you never know. Not sure if the APPLEFIVE code is still active for $5 off.)

* Note the newer M4 Pro Mac Minis have Thunderbolt 5 ports on the back for even faster read-write speeds (up to 120 Gbps).
