MY RANT
Woot is currently offering up these 12 outlet power conditioner/surge protectors . I’ve had two of these strips protecting my TV, DVD players, (then BD) surround sound system, and other “hi-fi” equipment for at least the past 15 years (it’s been so that I don’t know how long its been). Yes, that means this is a “seasoned” product design. Feel free to laugh at the RJ-11 ports, meant for protecting old fashioned telephones. Or the coax ports meant for those who get their television in a more traditional way. It doesn’t matter though! That’s because electricity hasn’t changed. And we still use the same NEMA 5-15R amd NEMA 5-20R outlets (at least in North America). That is why I will attest these strips do a great job protecting AV equipment. They were made and originally sold in high end home theater boutique stores at a premium. Which is why this is such a bargain.
If you don’t know already, AV electronics, like TVs, stereo systems, etc, are all highly sensitive to voltage fluctuations. In essence anything complicated piece of electronics, with lots of capacitors, resistors, etc needs protection. Which is what those power bricks do that plug into our laptops. Or the job of the power supply in a desktop computer. In contrast, most large appliances, don’t have the complexity for this matter. But unlike those other products, TVs, home theater systems. printers, etc don’t have much built-in protection. So if you want them to last, you should always use a high quality power CONDITIONER like this,
My original power strips are currently protecting their 3rd television, and all of the previous TVs performed flawlessly until they were donated to charity, and replaced with something newer. My latest are the Onn 65 inch 4K TV. and an Onn 50 inch 4K TV, both of which I bought from Walmart during the 2020 holiday season. When those same models showed up on Slickdeals this year, people complained about their units having problems. Well it’s easy to explain. Cheap electronics, like the Onn TVs (and these even some premium brands because of off-shoring/supply chain issues) will use substandard components to save money. Cheap parts have lower tolerances, and will fail if they are exposed to dirty power for prolonged periods. I can get into the importanc of a clean sine wave some other time. For now, make sure your toys are protected by a quality piece of equipment, so you can then preach (or laugh) at the cheap skates without a television who didn’t bother to buy a quality power strip from a company whose products actually do what they claim.
I’ll close this rant by saying these power strips are also UL tested and certified! Once upon a time everything was. But these days, unfortunately these days, it seems that 99.9999% of what you find being pitched by the usual suspects isn’t. Fortunately smoke alarms, sprinkler systems, and fire retardant insulation has blunted the impact of being cheap. But in this case, you should consider the fact these power strips won’t explode, catch fire, or create tears in the fabric of space and time as a FREE BONUS .
