Shark Tank

How much sparkling water is added per bottle? By the alcohol percentage it looks to be 50/50. Kind of a high price for 1/2 the wine. but i’m sure this is refreshing and light and would be enjoyed by a lot of folks as a pre-dinner type of drink.

This is a great spritzer. For a lighter option choose Bon Affair.

Bon Affair’s founder, Jayla Siciliano, was most recently seen on ABC’s ‘Shark Tank’ making a deal with Mark Cuban for these premium wine spritzers.

Here is a link to Jayla’s Shark Tank success:

Jayla, and her wines are the real deal. Mark Cuban isn’t bad either.

The Shark Tank Success Stories Blog had some nice things to say as well.

I agree - although a 1.5 of J might tempt me as well.

Hi Cortot20, great question, it is 50/50 like a classic wine spritzer. It’s definitely not for everyone but for those health conscious/fashion conscious people out there who maybe want to drink 3-4 glasses (not that any of us would ever do that-wink wink  this lets them kick back and enjoy, still get a buzz with out going over board and spending the last hour on a search for padded furniture  - Jayla, Bon Affair Founder

you rock chipgreen thanks so much for sharing the vid! - Jayla, Founder Bon Affair

haha yup definitely not for everyone. A 1.5 of J might put me in a coma haha but I’m a light weight  I golf a lot and I look at J and Iron Horse like my drivers and Bon Affair is like my seven iron. And I can only drive the golf ball about 125 yards haha - Jayla, Bon Affair Founder

Hi Jayla,
will it lead me to the overwelming feeling of needing dessert? Similar to my pregnant wife needing a donut at 10pm.

All kidding aside, I like the bottle design. It’s a bummer none of these were sent out for some community notes.

What’s the drinking window on these two bottles? And what’s your past experience In The adult beverage industry? I didn’t watch the shark tank episode.

Edit: watched the episode, and it answered my past experience question. So where do you get the wine to make this spritzer?

Hi CT, at least with Bon Affair being less calories you could feel a little less guilty having a donut with your wife at 10pm haha  (congrats on a new baby by the way!)

I recommend drinking Bon Affair within 12 months of receiving the bottle. Once the bottle is open its like a peligrino. with the cap screwed back on tight in the fridge it’ll last a week if it’s more than half full, if it’s less than half full it’ll last 3 days or so.

Believe it or not I had zero experience in the alcohol/wine/beverage industry. For eight years I did product development/design for footwear and bags working for Diesel Footwear and Burton Snowboards. I had this idea based on a personal need (I had lived in Santa Barbara for nine years and loved wine but as a non-beer drinker needed a lighter option) so quit my job and jumped in head first to quickly realize I had no idea what I was doing and had no connections in this industry. I ran through savings, credit cards etc. I pushed through but I won’t lie the first few years were pretty rough, after pitching investors for a year and a half I raised the first $500K to launch it and after doing our first bottling run discovered the caps were leaking and I lost about 100K worth of inventory (not fun) but I found a new bottler, applied to Shark Tank, got it into Whole Foods and now we’re at retail in multiple states and it’s finally growing, it’s still a ton of work but a lot more fun! - Jayla, Founder Bon Affair

Interesting story do far. With enough success would consider branching out into other wines? Different varietals? Different blends? Any ideas for the future?

My pleasure. I admire your drive and entrepreneurial spirit, congrats on your Shark Tank success! I hope Cuban’s involvement is worth 35% for only $150k, that seems like a pretty sweet deal for him I’m glad he didn’t try to lowball you.

If you haven’t already, you might check into some additional online funding through Angel List. I know Barbara Corcoran has an investment group on there because I went through them to invest in another wine related startup biz. Maybe Cuban has a presence on the site as well?

I like the straightforward way you present your product. It is what it is, which is not for everyone. I do believe you have identified a niche market within the wine industry that has the potential to be lucrative and you are on the right track with a catchy name, attractive packaging and a reasonable price point.

Questions: The specs show no sugar at all, isn’t there some residual sugar from the wine? Does “no sugar” just mean “no added sugar”? Is there any perceived sweetness or fruitiness in the flavor profile of these spritzers?

My first thought is to add a Rosé in a silver bottle. Rosés are increasing in popularity and if she can SkinnyGirl her way into creating a demand for spritzers, it’ll take advantage of both trends.

Wish they had this when I was single…

Spritzer? Yuk!

I’m holding out for Boone’s Farm.

I am guessing the same amount of time that they tell you to change out your water in your earthquake supplies emergency kit?
