If you’re wondering why this looks like a Breville Barista Express without the coffee grinder, that’s because it is.
I used to work for a reseller that sold the Breville machines. Many customers would bring them back when the coffee grinder broke. In warranty limbo I was able to disassemble the item and look at the internals.
I bought two of these Brim machines on September 11th 2023 for $142 each. I gave one away as a gift and last year the second one started leaking..
The warranty process had me document cutting the power cord to the device. I took that one step further by disassembling the unit and removing the power source from the circuit board.
The insides of the Breville and the Brim
are the same.
This is why I love disassembling things!
Too bad the resale value of these are so terrible. I wonder if one could swap the brand names
I think that’s where Breville makes their money. Integrating a poorly designed add-on feature that disables a machine that they can charge four times the price for.
I also think that the components are the same but the manufacturing process is different. The resale value on these are so low because after a year or two they start leaking. Where is in the Brevilles, if you side load the espresso and don’t use the grinder your unit will run for 5 to 10 years without issue with proper maintenance.
These units are robust, reliable and repeatable in performance until they throw a solenoid or back out a connection.
