What is a “Portablle” Fire Pit?

port·a·ble /ˈpôrdəb(ə)l/ adjective
able to be easily carried or moved, especially because of being a lighter and smaller version than usual.

I have a similar model from the same mfg (mine has folding legs, purchased in 2014). Looks like the body/burner & gas train is basically the same.

It works fine & is a nice camping addition if you can’t make a wood fire (ie: open burning ban, etc.) I’ve even set it up on my patio at home a few times. I actually prefer the folding legs on mine, for less space in packing. But the tradeoff is less stability than this one.

This offer seems to be a good price on this model. The model I have is currently a little cheaper on Amazon with free shipping. I think the prices fluctuate significantly with these things depending on season. I’ve seen the model I have being sold online @ Amazon & Cabelas for ~$50 more in the late fall/winter.

A friend has one of these and brought it on a raft trip where we weren’t allowed to collect wood or make a fire not in a fire pan. It was awesome! More for ambiance (and warmth) than anything else - we had propane stoves for cooking - but if your camping experience is not complete without a campfire, it’s great.

Anyone have any idea how long this bad boy burns on a 20 lb. tank of propane?

On paper, a 20# cylinder would run it at full burn for 7.8 hours.

In practice, I took mine on a winter tent Boy Scout trip when there was a burn ban in effect. They went through one full tank and part of another on a weekend. So YMMV.

On another note, that’s when I realized how much the price can jump on these things. Two of the other parents wanted to get one, and had sticker shock. I’d only paid around $75. And I guess it also shows its a decent niche product for car camping.

Thanks for the comment. It reminded me how much I wanted one of these. In for one.

I don’t see a propane regulator on this?

The propane gas regulator is one of the most important parts of a propane gas system. The purpose of the regulator is to control the flow of gas and lower the pressure from the tank to the appliance(s) in the gas system. The regulator not only acts as a control regarding the flow and distribution of propane but also as a safety barrier between the high pressure of the tank and the end use appliance(s). Most will rightfully argue that the LP Gas regulator is the heart of any propane gas system.

Hmmmm… You don’t see one, but it comes with one – on the end of the six foot hose that attaches to the propane tank.
