Can you drive a car with a standard (non-automatic) transmission
I have started learning driving in a manual car but would prefer an automatic.

Technically I can, I took a bunch of drivers ed classes when I was back in Portugal, but never did the final exam due to college then, after that it was my health. All cars there are stick shift.

Absolutely. Do it every day. Find myself trying to shift anytime I slip into my automatic.
I call the ModernDay AntiTheft System. The MDATS.

That movie scared me to death as a kid! I still wound up with a CDL in my pocket, though!!!

I’ve always had manual transmission cars.
I started with a used '72 VW Super Beetle and for the last 19 years a '06 VW Rabbit.

My first vehicle was 5 speed SUV. Then, I had manuals in a truck and car in subsequent decade and half after that. Unfortunately, the last decade has been automatics. I imagine muscle memory is still there just like how my kids learn my muscle memory at N64 Mario Kart meant I am untouchable unless they team up.

Manual transmissions are the best for winter driving.

Never had the money in my life to have a car at all so, no.

Me driving standard

Did we talk about this awhile back?
It is a good skill to have.
Woot is in the midst of early onset Alzheimer’s. We usually just humour Woot. It’s easier on all of us. ![]()
I have never owned any other kind of car and never want to.
I am an anacronism…
I am an IT professional, my 2006 Corvette has a 6spd manual, my watch is a Rolex Explorer II and my pen is a fountian. I like traditional things to keep me balanced.
Besides, most Americans under 35 can’t drive a manual. My wife and I went to a Marriott in San Diego and of all the valet staff, only 2 could drive a stick!!!

All four of us kids learned on this. If you can drive this, you can drive anything.

I haven’t driven a manual, and I don’t want to. If I had to drive one, I think I could figure it out pretty quick.
Oui.

Oh, that poor clutch! Those poor gears!
First car in drivers training was a 72 VW Super Beetle. Had been driving a 60 Corvair stick. I currently drive an 08 Mini Cooper S with 6 speed manual. Driving the streets of San Francisco & Seattle is fun in a stick. In the Utah Army National Guard my vehicle was a deuce and a half. A blast to drive in the mountain snows! ![]()
