Great price for Casio’s entry level G-Shock but it does NOT have “Environmentally friendly solar technology.” It runs on a CR2016 3V lithium battery and according to Casio’s web site its “approx. battery life 2-yrs.” If you never use the back light, the battery might last 2 1/2 or even 3 years but that’s it. I bought one, changed the battery once, and now it’s in a drawer. You can’t beat it for toughness but battery life is really short for a watch like this.
Wow, I have traveled back to the 80’s. Had this exact watch many times. The bands wore out more than anything else. And you could boil it, freeze, hit it with a hockey stick, run over it with a truck. You might die, but the watch will live on and on and on
Wow…so cool! I 2 had the ladies (simple) version…same…bands wore out but they just worked under nearly any conition…Casio made/makes good watches! Cheap!

Great price! Planning to buy one more and will get modificaton kit for metal version upgrade. DW5600E-1V is not solar powered, but the battery changing is not diffcult at all.
Yeah the battery life is a regression. The original G-shock of the hockey commercial supposedly ran 10 years on a CR2025.
I’ve had a bunch of resin case Casio watches in the past, and with every one of them, the spring pins eventually pulled their way out of the strap lugs on the case, and wouldn’t stay back in again. The bands also broke but that was less of an issue since bands are easier to replace.
Anyone know if that happens with this model? What is this about a metal upgrade?
Solution to the battery-life problem is a G-Shock with “tough solar power” i.e. a photovoltaic cell under the dial. $80 not $50 and for either $50 or $80, the strap is a typical Casio plastic strap with the typical problems. For $80 on Amazon or $21 on Ali Express, you can buy a replacement steel bracelet and buckle with a honking big steel replacement bezel. Stick the G-Shock movement in that and it looks like the ultimate G-Shock, the one you’re too cheap to buy, the all-steel Japan domestic model GMW-B5000D-1JF sold for $370 on Amazon and a few bucks less on eBay.
I am so glad I ordered one more yesterday before it sold out. It will be my son B day gift!
