Ugh. Don’t store your knives this way (edge down). You dull them every time you take them out or put them in. Store them blunt side down, or, better yet, buy a knife block to store them sideways.

Not a comment on these knives, just the picture. Carry on.

I bought this same set on sale on Amazon 2 days ago for $99 with free prime shipping. The set has a lifetime warranty so I’m not sure why that isn’t listed and is showing the 90 day woot warranty. Reviews are very positive and I found this site interesting:

This set is no $150 - $187.+ without Prime shipping on Amazon today. So, this looks like the deal of the two. Wish I’d seen it two days ago!

I bought a similar Chicago Cutlery knife block (came with steak knives instead of scissors). It is much nicer than my previous block by Food Networks. The blades need to be sharpened every 5 or 6 times I make a large pot of stew (which is what I would expect). I wouldn’t say this is a $600 set, but it is worth the money.

Go Japanese (VG10 steel)

These “generic” knives (made from 420 steel) probably need to be honed every single time before use.

Well, I think I know why these are discounted. They arrive defective. I just received my order for this, and the wooden block is cracked all the way through. It even appears to have been re-glued but didn’t hold. Poor workmanship. All Woot wants to do is give me $10 bucks for the damage or return it. I’m tempted to return it, but I like the knives themselves.

Sorry for the problem. Zooming in to the photo, it looks like it’s made from blocks of wood glued together - a standard in woodwork. It probably cracked at one of those joins so you’re seeing the glue.
