Did you ever get pennies? I still remember the couple who would have rolls of pennies and they’d peel off a couple to drop in your bag. Weirdos.

The WI village/town where my in-laws lived set a specific time/day for trick-or-treaters. It was usually a Saturday (regardless of the day Halloween fell on) and from 4-6pm.

Yup. Same with where I live. It’s usually still daylight and the neighboring towns all try to have it at the same time.
We never had to knock on doors. People here turn their porch lights on and sit on the porch or in the front yard and pass out candy.
A decade or so ago they started doing a trick-or-treat for businesses only. It’s pretty popular. We get a lot of out-of-towners from that.

I live in a super small town, but have a huge Chicago visitor rate. You would think Christmas would be our jam, as we are the oldest town in IL - nope it is Halloween.
Literally, at least a 3 hr parade and 10,000 people come. The entire historic downtown is decorated, parties on the building roofs. The parade has everything All Hallow’s Eve. We don’t really have trick or treating bc the kids get so much candy thrown at them from the people on floats and walking in the parade and all the shops
They had to cancel it last year in April bc it takes so many different departments across the city, county and state to coordinate they couldn’t wait to see what covid was going to do (which of course it would have been cannes bc IL was on complete lockdown). We had our 4th of July fireworks on Christmas Eve
