I was charged sales tax on this item, which I thought was a mistake by Woot since my state, for food, only charges sales tax on candy and soda.
But nope! The joke here is the definition of candy by the Streamlined Sales Tax organization and the states who follow their guidelines.
By their definition, gluten free oatmeal bars (i.e. no flour) like this are considered candy but Twix and Kit Kats are not because they contain flour.
Here’s the definition:
“Candy” is defined in Part II of the Library of Definitions to mean a preparation of sugar, honey,
or other natural or artificial sweeteners in combination with chocolate, fruits, nuts or other
ingredients or flavorings in the form of bars, drops, or pieces. “Candy” shall not include any
preparation containing flour and shall require no refrigeration.
Oatmeal cookies just can’t get a break.
Just got these today. They are stale and tasteless. The expiration is August of this year.
