is this a knock-off/re-brand of ThinkGeek’s Smart Mass? http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/5ac8/

I got ThinkGeek’s ‘magnetic black hole’ putty which is nearly identical to this product and it’s really cool.

Although you shouldn’t leave the magnet in contact with the putty for extended periods of time (when storing/ not playing with it). I had a lot of the metal particles leave the putty and stick to the magnet. I suggest storing the magnet away from the putty or at least on the outside of the tin.

I believe thinkgeek actually gets their putty from them (puttyworld.com). Which is the same initial putty that is used to make silly putty brand as well. It all comes from Dow Corning (3179 DILATANT COMPOUND, to be specific lol).

I am a long time addict to the stuff lol. Used to go in on group buys were we ordered directly from Dow where the minimum order was 100lbs. of it! Aaron used to actually be part of that newslist group before he started putty world.

The more you know .jpg lol

Thanks for the idea but with $5 for shipping, I spent the same amount of money on 2 big tins at another site where I have free shipping.

I see you’re a relatively new wooter. With that being said, if you decide to buy other things from Woot this holiday, you will only pay for $5 shipping just once. Even if you buy something a week from now, your $5 will be taken off the final price and shipping will continue to be free until the end of the holiday. I hope that helps ease the pain of helping to pay delivery people for doing their jobs.

Thanks UPS, FEDEX and USPS. It always feels like Christmas when I order from Woot.

Guess you haven’t been ripped off by woot or tried to go through their lousy customer service. I was tempted to buy but even though I still check to see whats out there my memories of so many issues and lies from woot still come back. I have been duped a few times. I wont be duped again with woot. They have lied in descriptions of products. They constantly change information even after you buy it. They cancel orders yet still ship them. They sell broken items. I bought a watch one time had a warranty showed up not working spent too long going through returning it. woot said have to contact MFG mfg wrote they don’t have a rep in USA so they refused to do warranty repairs after some more time woot finally accepted the return. BUYER BEWARE OF WOOT!!!

Ice OR spray air (invert the can to freeze quicker)

That also works for gum as well.

Yet… here you are? Solid post, dude.

Anyone know if these would be good for a curious 9 year old? He likes to play with Playdoh and stuff, but the idea of magnetic silly putty might be even more fun.

Yes, it would be great for a 9 year old. Definitely different than play-dough but still a lot of fun. I have two different large tins of Crazy Aaron’s Thinking Putty in my office and it is always a hit when kids come to visit at work and play with it. I would highly recommend it.

I don’t buy as much stuff from woot as I have in the past but I still buy at times. The $5.00 shipping deal is great I just wish they would keep the one day shipping deal for $5.00.

That being said, I hope woot will not close because fireman4ever is mad at them. Losing his 3 items a year is going to be hard to replace.

Don’t go away mad dude, just go away!

Hi there! Actually, Think Geek’s Magnetic putty is Thinking Putty that is packaged for them by us under their Smart Mass brand. All the same awesome Thinking Putty!

That was long ago! Thinking Putty is now our own unique creation–I’d tell you how it’s made, but then I’d have to…

Rubbing alcohol will remove it from your carpet. Check Frequently Asked Questions – Crazy Aaron's for more info.

Does this come with a magnet?

Also, can anyone give me an idea for how large the mini’s are? Like, enough to squeeze in my hand, or thimble sized?

I’m sitting here playing with my putty as I write this. Hey, it’s my special talent! Notice that the other tins are .47oz. I know from experience that those little guys would just be a tease. I got several of the 3.2oz and combined them into one large lump o’ fun. I don’t think the little ones would do it for me. Wow, too many euphemisms in one post. Must check myself. Anyway, I’ve got the Super Lava out right now. The magnetic putty is my least favorite. They do all have different consistencies you know. And the magnetic one is kind of gritty and doesn’t “melt” like the Super Lava one does. I would like to get a hold of a big vat of putty from Dow like someone posted above. That would be fun!
