So every time you finish a cut, the blade will automatically retract. Period. No way to stop that. So after every cut you have to retract the slider to reengage the blade, push it forward so you can cut again. And “pop” at the end of the cut it sucks it back in. Again. You know, in my job I make about 500 blade cuts a day with my standard, self operated, “utility knife”. I’ve never cut myself. I don’t know of anyone who has. (Though I know a few that have been hurt by flying pieces when they tried switching to those “break off” bladed knifes). If I had to slide the “button” back and forth for each cut I am not sure if the button slide would wear out in a day, but my patience with that knife would. What namby pamby minded (probably an OSHA suggestion) self proclaimed engineer came up with this idea? Should give that guy a fork that jumps back into the silverware drawer after each bite of food…

Nah, this type is pretty standard now and required in work environments. I have a couple.

If you hold the button down, the blade stays out. But if you let go, the blade retracts.

The company I work for banned “fixed blade knives”, including pocket knives and normal box cutters. Apparently some office schmuck made some silly choices and sliced their thumb a few years back, so official policy is everyone needs to use “safety knives”.

Apparently food processors, distributors, and retailers in the Chicago / 6 county area haven’t gotten word of any rules or taken up the effort yet to change. Having family on the wholesale side of the produce business I occasionally drop in or go on ride alongs. Old hashioned single edge box cutters are everywhere, with standard “Stanley blade” heavy utility knives carried where most of the persons work is breaking down corrugated. Oddly, one of the commonest giveaways in the industry are still logo emblazoned razor blade box cutters…
