Buyers beware. I was suspicious about the price, and this video confirmed it’s a shady company.

I own a similar set of these knives (different brand but same set, down to the box, with the only difference being the laser etching on the knives and the branding on the box.) Here are some notes:

  • Definitely not 62+ Rockwell. These are similar hardness as a mid tier set of cutlery that you can get at any big box store
  • These are single bevel knives and are made for right handed users. If you are left handed, sorry but these aren’t for you
  • Mine came surprisingly dull, so be prepared to sharpen your blades (actual stone sharpening, not just a honing steel). If you don’t know how to sharpen a single bevel knife, take them to professionals
  • They are surprisingly weighty, which I actually like in a vegetable chopper, but keep in mind that they have some real heft to them
  • Don’t know why these say “triple riveted” as you can see there are no rivets on these knives
  • When you read “nitrogen colled” you already know that there is some serious marketing shenanigans as that means nothing and is spelled wrong
  • At ~$15/knife this is a pretty good deal if you want to try out some Japanese style single bevel knives before committing to a real set that is worth some real money
  • Requires a high degree of care due to being so cheap (read, not just inexpensive). You will be sharpening these often

These are an ok buy for the price. They aren’t even close to as good as the marketing makes them out to be, but you will be getting a new set of knives that you can try out. They aren’t Damascus, they certainly aren’t 62+ Rockwell, but they are cheap like borscht.

THANK YOUSinsemilla!
Woot is trying to sell scams and junk! Oh my, how times have changed. I use to trust Woot, no more!

Thanks Sinsemilla… I was interested until I saw the video. Thanks for the save!

P.S. don’t bogart that thing man!

As someone who eagerly bought these recently, I agree with the other posts: NOT worth the money! In addition to everything RENEGADETUBA said, one of mine has the finish rubbing off the handle after just a few uses (and hand washes).

I purchased these identical knives at a chain grocery headquartered in Germany. Each knife was sold individually for $6.99. They are excellent knives for what I paid, but I wouldn’t pay one cent more. This set would be a value purchase at $19.99.

I bought these on a previous Woot, stay FAR away. Horrible quality, won’t take a proper edge, just overall waste of money.

Love Burrfection’s videos… and I’m not even a knife-guy.

I love the YouTube video where Burrfection discovers that the internet is full of the same cheap junk offered on many discount sites.

That was good. :joy:

:w_tongue:

Interesting video. I wonder what this individual would think of stuff from Harbor Freight?

This practice is just native advertising, no? It is sadly common these days, but it doesn’t say much about the knives’ quality. Kinda like the video.

However they choose to sell the knives, it is dubious that they are presented as deeply Japanese but aren’t actually made there.

I found this item on amazon that seems to be the same product:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B011LBF5H4

Ignore the reviews and read the Q and A for details on these knives. Might be relevant.

The marketing material on this page is pretty extensive and professional, and targeted at the American market. And native advertising seems like a very American practice. I wonder if it’s an American company that is behind this product, and they’re just buying the knife set from a contract factory in China.

You link a different set of knives that are not the same designs, sold by a different company, and cost 4 times as much.

Even after I linked a video that outlines that this particular brand on Woot uses misleading if not fraudulent practices to make it sound like it’s those sorts of quality knives.

C’mon, man. Use your brain. You’re the sucker they’re marketing these at.
