Y’know, I’m just going to come out and say it – this is actually a pretty good deal. This particular model is not easy to find, and when it’s available, even the refurbs tend to be priced at ~$50-100 more than this. If you’re a procurement guy looking for a generic office PC that needs a Win 10 Pro license, this would not be a bad choice. Or if you’re a regular consumer that needs a day-to-day internet browsing machine.
I should note that this will not likely be a good candidate for “drop in a low-profile graphics card to do light gaming” because the PSU is only rated at 180W, and based on a comparable build on PCPartPicker, it estimated the wattage at around 156W.
Wondering how much RAM does it support? If I were to get something like this I would like to increase the 16GB up to somewhere around 24GB or up
Out of curiosity I looked and there are some low profile cards anywhere from 20 to 50 to 75W depending on how hard someone might want to press their luck. An Nvidia 1030 is 30W and supposedly get 35 fps in GTAV, 44fps in Fortnite and over 100fps in Minecraft. Not too shabby, and yet not the greatest. As you said, probably too much trouble unless someone just REALLY wants a SFF Dell gaming PC. If someone goes to to this much trouble for $500+ dollars they should just get a $600 prebuilt with better specs.

Example of better prebuilt instead of this plus a graphics card.
Disclaimer: I made a franken-pc with my old 170W Nvidia 760 with a 250W psu using a bunch of molex to 6pin power connectors and it ran fine. I imagine those power supplies have a good bit of safety overhead. However, my experience may have just been luck and emboldened me.
Hi there! From the vendor: Supports up to 32GB DDR4. We’ve added this to the spec table.
I value your opinion and decided to get this. A few months ago I picked up this (Lenovo M900 i5 256GB Tiny Desktop Lenovo M900 i5 256GB Tiny Desktop) and wasn’t impressed with how the audio output would fluctuate. I also noticed a sensitive display port making the display unstable making me use the alternate port. I’m hoping this one performs better being that every component seems to be a step above the Lenovo.
I hope my opinion is justified!
I’ll let you know. To save time will this Dell use the same DDR4 RAM the Lenovo uses?
Memory Type: Non-ECC SODIMM, 260-Pin
Speed: DDR4-19200, 2400 MHz
Not sure. https://dl.dell.com/topicspdf/optiplex-3060-desktop_owners-manual3_en-us.pdf
My guess is that it takes normal desktop RAM and the Lenovo uses laptop RAM.
Does this have an Ethernet port and a VGA port for my monitor? Thanks
I just got a 3020 from Woot and loaded Linux onto it to make the perfect awesome server. I don’t care about Windows and it’s fast and good enough to run all sorts of things including Plex Media Server for my house. Since this is 40 better than the 3020, it’s got to be 40 times better, right?
That does make sense. The Lenovo is pretty much a laptop in a mini desktop while this would require desktop RAM
I believe RJ-45 is ethernet port. Not sure about a VGA port though. You can buy VGA to DisplayPort or HDMI adapters.
