Am I missing something or is this missing display porn specs?

Would there be anything stopping me from pulling out the ryzen 3 and dropping in, say, a Ryzen 7 5700G?

They both use the same AM4 socket. I’m not experienced enough to go any further in saying it would work.

Yes – Dell. If an updated BIOS with newer AGESA was not released, newer CPUs will not be supported. For example, I have a HP with a B350 chipset that cannot upgrade past Zen+ because a newer BIOS was never release to support Zen2.

Contractual obligations may also limit the supported processors.

(Note that I am not staff. I just volunteer to help out on the forums.)

Ah the good old “is anything stopping me?” - “Dell” exchange. Truly a classic. (All joking aside, since this is their business line it’s entirely possible it has updates, etc. They do pretty well for business systems, but if it says Inspiron you might end up sad)

Also how exactly is a 2200G not on the good list for processors? So weird, that is not that old or weak afaik…

Some folks could just use more power?

Compared to an Intel i3 at the time, they were stronger in multi-threaded but weaker in single-threaded.

It also appears that the compatibility list linked to is for new machines: manufactures can’t build and sell a new machine with a 2200G and windows 11, even though they can use much wimpier A-series chips from generations prior. Clearly a business decision not a tech one. Business decisions are weird.

I didn’t intend to imply that the 2200G is not a good processor. I’m almost certain it would meet my needs, but I’m curious about the upgrade options if it turns I out I might need more oomph. I certainly appreciate the feedback!

Np. I will say, the fact that OptiPlex 5055 auto suggests CPU upgrade when searching, and the first few results don’t really have conclusive answers, did not seem very promising.
