500 bucks worth of hardware with a comparable run of the mill motherboard.
looks like the same machine a few dollars cheaper over here
according to the specifications in OptiPlex 7080 Small Form Factor Setup and specifications guide and crucial.com’s memory finder, this machine has max 128 GB RAM.
Also, it is always nice to see the back of the computer. I found this in the guide linked above
[VMod edit: The unit at B&H is a small form factor and is in ‘used, like new’ condition with 1-year B&H warranty. The unit here at Woot is factory reconditioned with a full 3 year Dell warranty.]
That one is slimmer, has a smaller power supply, and has no WiFi or Bluetooth.
Dell Optiplex business grade PCs tend to be built like tanks, are more serviceable (at least the non-small form factors like this one), and likely to last 50-100% longer than a cheap consumer PC.
But even with this near latest 10th gen i5 cpu, it would be nicer to see 16GB of RAM installed + a 512GB SSD at this $725 price. Agreed with above, even if this is a nice discount vs new, a price closer to $500 on a consumer retail site like Woot would make more sense.
Note: at least that 3-year Dell Warranty is included.
$5 cheaper for a small form factor (compact) model that is not as upgradeable or easy to service. And, at least on the mobile site, could not find the warranty coverage so might not have this Woot’s Dell 3-year warranty.
$500? – not in the current market. Including a fully licensed copy of Windows 10 Pro, I got to $705.39 for a comparable DIY build using mostly the lowest cost components.
Less than $20 difference – this comes with a 3 year warranty and there’s no need to DIY. Though I’ve been building since the 80s, saving money hasn’t been the factor for over 2 decades now.
(Note that I am not staff. I just volunteer to help out in the forums.)
got it, thanks for setting me right @bluemaple and @Wooter12026881
Yeah, and adding on those Dell Warranties can definitely add up to some ![]()
This is more than we pay for these brand new on the company Dell account.
This is way too close to retail imo. Especially considering…
I bought a clearance HP desktop from Walmart 2 days ago that had the same specs with W10H for $250. I’m sure there are differences between Optiplex and the Vostro/Random Walmart HP tower but I’m not sure people who care are shopping on Woot, or shopping referbs at all.
While this Optiplex certainly appears over-priced, especially for Wooters, it is a false comparison to expect corporate account discounted pricing for one-off sales on Woot.
I too used to be involved with a corporate Dell account at a multinational company - the level of discounting by Dell at our purchase volume was truly dramatic.
Enterprise customers have their own tech support organization, so Dell doesn’t have to deal with the cost of dealing with individual retail customers. That is part of where the discount comes from with corporate accounts.
The dramatic discounting comes with higher volume accounts. A smaller volume corporate customer doesn’t get anywhere near the discounts of larger companies.
