Derby entry comments for Derby #276: Greece

Comments for individual derby entries are placed in this thread.

A reworking of an older design from the spring derby of yore. It is Persephone, goddess of spring, bringing whatever manner of mirth she can to gloom-riddled Hades.

Version 2 is here.

I tried to keep it simple. I hope y’all like it…

look at the little fella, he spends all day making labyrinths…

Thanks for the awesome help in the pre-derby thread. J5 suggested switching from creme to light blue, and that ended up looking pretty good, so big thanks there, too!

Awww yeaaah.
That’s the one.

So much cute and horrifying in one shirt! +1

Hey, look. Medusa! Or maybe Euryale.

Just something I wanted to do. Halfway through I wanted to make it a side print but it wasn’t long or graceful enough for that to work, so center it is.

Hopefully the red drippiness is artsy enough that it doesn’t look all gross and gory. It’s supposed to represent Medusa’s beheading, obviously, but I thought the profile with the shoulders/collarbone area flowed better than just being cut off at the neck.

Four colors on navy.

I LOVE the drawing… but, beshouldering is kind of odd… I would adore an alternate version with a Stone Bust… for irony…

People say I’m lazy
dreaming my life away
Well they give me all kinds of advice designed to enlighten me

When I tell them that I’m doing fine
watching shadows on the wall
Don’t you miss the big time boy you’re no longer on the ball

Oh Wence, This one is awesome!

Why light blue?! I thought it was on tan! Still +1.

Weirdsville, man. Love it!

I absolutely love this one! I hope it prints! <3

I like them both- maybe creme a bit more for this design since it ages it a bit more. But for whatever reason it’s such an unpopular color to actually wear as a tee, so I’ll go with the light blue for this one.

It was a game time decision, so I might put creme in the mix after I look at it with a fresh pair of eyes later…

Thx for the unconditional vote, though.

< Art critic hat>
The blue is harmonious with the scene, and sets the atmosphere as “in the moment”
The creme removes the immediacy and sets the tone as a rendering of an event on a disconnected medium.

As the artist, it’s your vision.

p.s. your line work is to die.

I have a very similar concept, but with a different approach.

Very nice!

i like it better on creme when it was at lafraise.com
