No, but I dream of electric sheep.
If I HAD to get an electric car, I would get the Lotus Emira. It is a bit out of my price range, so I will stay with gas for now.
I have gas.
Maybe one day I won’t.
If you put it in a bag o’ crap then, yes, yes I’ll drive an electric car. As with all BOCs, I’m also assuming it would come w/o the charger , but with plenty of earwax.
NEVER!!!
If I drove an electric car this would be a regular occurrence:
Give me this all day! Strong, reliable and cheap & easy to fix!
At some point I will, after a few kinks are fixed.
I’m thinking about getting one, however, with the understanding that it’s not really for traveling. But out here every 4th car is a Tesla and there are charging ports all over.
Not to be conspiracy theorist but it’s just like dang, with gas around $6 an electric buggy for local driving is becoming appealing. But I’ll always love my muscle cars and the sound of an engine and I do hate that creepy quiet conveyor belt sound of electric cars.
BTW the Cybertrucks are making appearances around here and the few times I’ve seen them I’ve thought 3 things:
- It looks like a child’s toy, in giant size
- It looks like a movie prop (as in the 1980s called and wants their “futuristic” truck back)
- Midlife crisis vehicle, the truck version
I don’t hate it and I don’t love it. It just looks silly and holds my attention for approx, 3-5 seconds
Congrats on reaching past 225K miles!
Please ask dealer if there is a software patch for your vehicle - in my case there was. They said there was some automatic degradation at 9 year mark that caused something similar to what you are describing in my Ford Fusion. Did not make sense why that should happen. But I also saw less triggering of electric motor. It is possible that what they did was reprogramming of the Battery Control Module BCM. Their pithy reply did not provide enough detail to make sense why, but electric motor use improved after the reprogramming and MPG improved to about 80% of new. Does not hurt to ask if any reprogramming is needed for higher mileage Mariner.
@Markguyver75 - Thanks for sharing that Gif. Did not know of this project. Found that it is from Blade Runner 9732 - a fan made homage. Alas, it was taken down from Steam for claimed copyright infringement. Reminds me of what I saw of the game Half Life but richer detail.
Here is a walk through of Deckard’s apartment. Truly amazing fan work. Too bad it no longer is available. But you get a good sense of what the project offered from this link:
Most cars need a battery and electric motor starter so they’re all hybrids…
True. But the ones we refer to have added torque and higher combine power than their siblings and get more mpg. Cost difference made up in typically one to two years driving for sedans. Maybe not in SUVs. Hybrids make much sense anywhere while EVs nay not for areas low in recharging stations.
But I don’t hate them or anything…I just happen to have a regular boring kind of car.
There’s also the carbon cost of batteries… About the same as a normal gas vehicle and some gas vehicles last longer overall
Mine was far cheaper to run and maintain than the vehicle it replaced. Purchase price was less too. Extended warranty was half as well.
My friend and I drove by someone charging their vehicle. She commented how much cleaner it is to not use gas.
I asked, “Does anyone realize the electricity
used to power the car is coming from the coal burning power plant across town?”
Many people are powering their EVs using a solar roof that charges a battery pack during day which then charges car at night. Had coworker who did so for her Ford C-Max. She drove dozens of miles daily but filled up gas about once every 5 weeks.
One hybrid and one Flex Fuel. Driving the Prius is fun, especially when you pass the gas stations selling gas @ $6/gallon.
Too much Taco Bell?
No, but I used to back when they were way less cool than they are today. Back in the lead acid 50 miles was amazing range days. People today have no clue how good they have it.
