Iā€™m wanting to replace my existing dot that may be 1st or 2nd gen but wonder if the 3rd gen can just plug in without re program since I use the apt as well :slight_smile:

Not quite sure I understand your question, but when you add (or replace) an echo, thereā€™s a pretty straightforward walkthrough in the Alexa app to add it to your account. Your old one will stay attached to your account unless you specifically remove it. But I always seem to find a use for the old ones, e.g. in the garage or places where I wouldnā€™t use one much, but itā€™s nice to have sometimes.

These 3rd gens are the best in my opinion. Way better sound and microphones than the 1st/2nd gen, but I strongly prefer the ā€˜puckā€™ form factor to the sphere design of the 4th gen. Just ordered one of these for my babyā€™s room where Iā€™ve been limping along on one of my old 1st gens, but the crappy microphones drive me nuts when I canā€™t whisper to it.

3rd gen Echo Dot, still the best Dotā€¦ and the best all around value in the entire Echo lineup, regardless of generation.

The newer latest 4th gen Echo Dot doesnā€™t sound or function any better and its odd globular fabric-covered dust-collector form factor blocks the LED status ring (now located at the bottom rather than at the top) from being seen if the Dot is located below your line of sight. Poor industrial design. And unfortunately that same form factor step backward applies to the latest regular (larger) Echo as well.

Anyone get theirs yet? I normally get my orders early compared to their estimated delivery date, but mine was estimated for the 22nd and still shows ā€œpreparing for shipmentā€.

Hey guys. Weā€™re aware that these are late. You should get an email from CS soon. weā€™re waiting on Amazon to ship them.

Tracking for me said that this one shipped on the 22nd and that yesterday Amazon shipping had it somewhere in Delaware.

For anyone still following the thread, I finally got mine on the 5th. Like-new condition as advertised, typical refurbished packaging. All good. :slight_smile:
