Seems like if they’re going to make four or five physically similar devices (which DO have different performance characteristics), THEY need to make clear which one of those devices are being presented for our consideration. Don’t make me have to “guess” (and send stuff back when it isn’t what I wanted and that isn’t obvious).
This is the largest. The new ones are smaller and are supposed to be netter sound
It’s in the name which one it is.
There is an “Echo” which is the larger device & then there’s the “Echo Dot” which is the smaller device. This one, per the description, is the Echo Dot.
All of the devices have different names.
In addition it also tells you the year of the release, 2020, and the generation, 4th, so you know precisely which device it is. They do this because sometimes there are usually spec differences between the generations but there may be no physical difference. In every instance it will always state the name of the device the year and the generation. I’m not really sure what more you can ask.
Nope.
In the description it clearly states this is the Echo Dot, which is the smaller of the two.
I think they mean the newer Dots maybe?
This deal showed me the 5th gen Dots are out and $27 right now, so I ended up just going that route since it wasn’t much more and grabbed two so I can finally voice power all these smart devices.
Either way, thanks Woot!
Go with two echoes wow do they sound awesome together paired in the alexa app!..then later on if funds are tight…get the echo sub!!
Im sorry I agree with flared0ne. As Amazon has Echo, Echo Plus, Echo dot, Echo Show, Echo Hub, ect. It is very confusing giving a generation and release year. I know doesn’t sound like it should be that difficult. However, even though I purchased a Echo Gen 2 white and received a Gen 1 Echo Black clearly states otherwise. If Amazon can’t even provide the correct devices how the F do they expect us as patrons to get it right as well?
I can’t make 2 echos work with my Firestick. They when together through Alexa, but not both connected so i can watch TV. Huge oversight.
I also find Alexa oversimplified and it seems less robust as a smart app. I should be able to ad-hoc connected devices with ease.
Did you get the bundle with the smart bulb included?
So for another 8, get the 5th gen along with a smart bulb-
You could also buy this one and trade it in on a 5th gen for 25% off the 5th gen plus a Amazon gift card and come out ahead
Oddly, I don’t think Amazon is taking 4th gen Echo Dots as trade-ins for the new 5th gen versions. When I go the product page and check the trade-in availability, the only device that shows up is my old 3rd gen Dot. If I search more broadly to see what’s allowed, 4th gen devices are not listed.
Doesn’t look like they are in any hurry to get the 4th gen devices out of circulation just yet.
I’m guessing that the reason only the only older stuff is available for trade-in is that maintaining firmware for the older ones is getting costly, and they’d like to encourage as many people as possible to take them out of circulation before they EOL them.
New Years Day - U2
This is not the better of the unites woot was selling earlier in the year
These dont have the better speakers ect
So to call it 4th gen is deceiving at best.
here is the link to what they were selling months ago as 4th gen.
Its larger as well but you wouldnt know it by the pic in this new add
For those of you with certain eero mesh systems, this will also become a 100mbps wifi extender (5ghz only). Both the 4th gen and 5th gen.
I’m amazed that people are confused here.
Echo is the product line, also the name of the flagship (larger) speaker. Other models are like:
Dot
Glow
Dot w/clock
Show 5
Show 8
Auto
etc. etc.
Then there are generations of the various models in the line. 3rd, 4th, 5th gen. They are mainly hardware revisions.
This is a Gen4 Dot. As the text says.
Try reading instead of just looking at pictures, people. It’s not that hard.
That’s an Echo Gen4
This is an Echo Dot Gen4
There’s no deception here. Just read the text, dude.
And for the oldies among us—Happy New Year- ABBA
I probably should have. I saw that after I’d ordered but figured I’d leave it since I didn’t want to figure out how to get existing Hue bulbs to jive with the free ones. Definitely thanks for pointing it out though in case others see it!
I think i have 2 boxes of them; I haven’t even opened. I really want that big one with the clock, but i think I’ll just be wasting money. Those 2 (big ones) are the same otherwise, right?
