These are pretty good. Unlike some other echos with a screen, you can’t enable “kid’s mode” on these. So it may show inappropriate news stories, play explicit music, and such. Something to consider if buying for a kid’s room.
You can wait until Prime Day, 21st and 22nd, to get the same deal if you want your choice of models.
Is this even a particularly good deal? I seem to recall seeing them much less expensive. I have one and like it.
They had used ones for $30- that’s what I bought. Looks like these are new.
What’s the difference between the US and Mexican versions? Not that I need a Mexican Alexa, just curious is all.
The way more functional Echo Show is available from Amazon for the same price as this.

I have both, and I eventually unplugged the Spot because it was pretty useless. For the same price, it’s a no-brainer to go with the Echo Show 5 from Amazon. There is literally no reason any of these should sell today with that Amazon deal also going on.
NOTE The Mexico Echo Spot will work just like the US version, but will default to Spanish at setup. The only difference is there’s some special features for the Mexico version that will allow for local identifications and setup in local languages. Supported language: Alexa speaks English and Spanish.
Is the “English” you can swap it to “Mexico English” (kinda the way there is “UK English”) or American English?
And does it default back to the Mexico mode when resetting it?
(Not that it matters to me personally, other than FYI, since I’d pay the same $50 price for the Show 5 10 times out of 10 vs. the now cancelled by Amazon, Spot. Asking for others.)
I have a show 5 as my alarm clock because it’s more functional. And these little guys as clocks around the house because they’re so freaking adorable.
I bought one of the refurbs here and freakin’ love it. Replaces a Show which had a massive footprint compared to this. I use it as an alarm clock and basically everything else the larger Show accomplished. If room is at a premium for you, the Spot is a great alternative to the Show.
Spot OR Show, they’re both too bright, put out too much light at night. I have blackout curtains and taped-over power-on indicators, and these two items make me crazy. And yeah, if this is your price point, wait for the Show, it gives many times the opportunity-space for what it can DO (videos, YouTube, songs-with-lyrics, weather maps, textual data, news reports, popular-art morphing-slides, etc)… Not to mention the occasional video-call.
Totally agree. After having a Show 5, I got an 8 and the viewing is even better. I would think this unit might be worth 25 bucks, but for this price, I’d recommend the Show 5 also.
