Escort Passport 9500ix Radar/Laser Detector

my radar goes off all of the time in DC. my GPS enabled one (i use this one in my car) has learned many of the false positives and won’t go off. my GPS enables one also tells me the camera (speed and red light) locations.

the laser jammer scrambles the signal back to the device it’s the laser is being shot from to give an invalid reading. so using your jammer and your detector, your detector tells you when a laser is shot, the jammer will scramble the signal enough to allow you to slow down and turn off your jammer before a cop can try to read you again.

i drive a 2015 BMW X5 and i’ve never had any interference with my system or any feedback from others.

This used to be an awesome detector. I had a similar model for almost 15 years until it was recently stolen from my car. Escort has discontinued this detector, however, because the environment has changed so much. The new adaptive cruise control systems use the same frequency as police radar to gauge the distance to the car in front. Older detector designs like this one can’t distinguish and they will constantly alert if someone has adaptive cruise control running. Once you get used to it, you can tell by the behavior when it’s cruise control and learn to ignore it but it can still be annoying as hell.

Good eyes. It was that way the last time we sold and nobody caught that.

I emailed the team to get it cleaned up.

I purchased this last time round. I got it to replace the PASSPORT 8500 x50 we’ve had for years. Lately the X50 has been having issues saying service in the display. Sent it back once to get fixed but it’s happened again. The X50 was a great unit (my other detector is a Valentine One) for the money and it lasted a very long time but the 9500xi is a very nice detector. The ability to mark known false signals is really the cats meow and best reason to get it. I’d almost say it’s feature trumps the directional arrows on my V1. After you drive by a location known for a false signal (bank or whatever) three times, you will see the display read “marked” then next time the detector will not go off but the gps icon will whirl instead saying to you, yes this is the place I usually go off but won’t anymore. A few trips over your normal route to work no more false signals from all the usual places, very nice The ability to have the display show the speed you are going is also nice. I turned that feature on and thought it would annoy me but later started to like it and even start to rely on it. There are many other features that are handy, after a few weeks with this one I’m very pleased. I’ve had quite a few detectors over the years. For the price it’s hard to beat

This is the only reason why I wouldn’t recommend this unit. Other than this:

The Valentine V1 has slightly longer range and the Front/Rear display so it’s a better pick if you mostly drive long distances on the interstate.

But if you spend time in town, the GPS memory feature is a slam dunk, and out on the highway it’s very sensitive too. Also, Escort has a subscription you can pay for that lets you connect the detector to them over the Internet via your computer, where it updates the national coordinates for Red Light Cams and speed traps.

The only question left is to answer if this will detect the false sensor alarm from the new car techonologies or no?

Since this is a refurb, does anyone know if this has TSR filtering?

[MOD: What we’re selling is NEW.]

Excellent detector. I have had one for years and it works great. Though I am not sure where they get their 40% off regular price from. They can be had for $385ish on amazon, so its more like 22% off, but still a good price.

it says new. NOT a refurb. I’m curious about the blind spot monitoring fals alarms and the radar cruise control false alarms. I see people say it handles blind spot monitoring correctly and doesn’t go off, but someone coment on the radar cruise. Like Distronic system in a Mercedes Benz. That is the last hold-up I have before ordering.

These are New and the latest model.

I have mine a little over 2 years, I got it directly from Escort for close to the retail price. It’s saved me numerous times, it provides more than adequate warning of radar signals. Of course, also use your eyes and common sense, be alert when you drive and always try to have a “rabbit”, or a faster driver ahead of you to protect you. The only thing, the false signal blocking on my unit doesn’t always work well, there are certain false positives I drive by every day that still register a signal, for that reason I"m considering getting this as a back-up unit.

By the way, I use something like this pad to mount the unit to the top of my dashboard, I don’t like those little circles on the windshield.

These are only as good as the cop is honest. My last two tickets I have been ticketed by “radar” without the cop using radar. Not exactly something I can contest… but don’t think you’re invincible even with warning.

I have a Valentine, but I don’t use it any more. It’s annoying to have the thing going off all the time. In the end I just increased my situational awareness instead, and slowed down a little.

One time at a social gathering I had a conversation with a cop who insisted, and I mean INSISTED, that radar detectors do not work. “We catch people who have them all the time.” I tried to explain to her that catching some inattentive drivers who ignored the warning or were going too fast to slow down doesn’t mean they don’t work; you don’t know how many people DID evade your speed trap with a detector, because you didn’t catch those. “NOPE! They DON’T WORK! You don’t know what you’re talking about!”

So that’s the mindset you’re up against with the cops, if you want to use one. If this cop was representative, they don’t think their radar is beatable, and they certainly don’t think a citizen can be in the right if the cop disagrees.

Yes, you can enable/disable TSR in the settings.

I actually bought this one the last time it was on woot because my Bel was falsing constantly from mostly newer Audis on the freeway. This unit hasn’t had that problem. In fact, the only problem I’ve had with it so far is it picks up cops from so far away that I start to think it’s falsing and speed back up.

Just found this review from Radar Roy, who specializes in radar detector reviews… He says don’t buy the 9500ix until you see this

How does it handle when the cops place a stationary radar (for up to a week) showing your speed above the posted speed?
If I drive by this all week then next week they have an actual cop waiting, in the same spot (approx), and I drive by it

  1. Is the GPS sensitive enough to detect if it’s off by a few feet?
  2. When it disappears for days (maybe weeks) and returns again will it have ”forgotten” that the radar was there?

Arrows all the way for me.

What’s the difference between the model with the red display and the blue I see elsewhere like crutchfield?

The only difference is the color of the LED screen and the color of the LED light on the SmartCord.

I bought the blue version just because it matches colors of my instrument panel.
