Curious if this would be a good gaming machine if I took it with me through a time machine into the 1990s?

DO NOT BUY - no Windows 11 upgrade path, CRAPPY screen resolution, CRAPPY processor. Seriously, there’s a reason this thing is at the pricepoint it is.

Lets consult the chart:

At its original price I would agree, but at this price it’s a no-brainer for a small, durable device you can take on vacation without worrying about losing/breaking your better machine.

It’s also a great fit (again, only at this price) for younger children to keep them off the more expensive laptops in the house.

Also, as I’ve said before, based on my experience 1366x768 is fine on an 11" screen, it’s sharp enough without the text being too small to read. 1600x900 would be better, but you’d have to scale up to 125% to be able to read smaller text.

This would almost be worth the asking price if I was certain we could install Linux and there was full driver support for the cellular modem in Linux.
If it was a bit cheaper, I might would think about giving it a try.
As it sits - a Celery processor with only 4GB RAM and 64GB storage is NOT going to run Windows worth a crap.

If you have a Micro center in your town is even cheaper. 79 bucks

How’s the WiFi?

Would you go for 79$? I didn’t look far, first hit on our friend Google.

If I’m going on vacation, I’m not taking a computer with me that takes even longer to boot up than my existing one. Especially once you load any/all software you deem necessary for this device.

Young children? Maybe, sure but I’d counter that a Chromebook would probably work just as well.

768p screen resolution is garbage at any screen size. 1080p or bust.

Fair enough, I guess my expectations vs price are lower than yours, no harm in that. I’ve had the Dell equivalent of this exact educational laptop and with a SSD installed and Void or Slackware Linux it’s fast enough for my traveling needs. My older eyes are better off with 768p on 11" screens for readability.

Would I use this as my daily/only laptop? Definitely not! But at this price it serves a purpose.
