Miyota 8N40 movement hand winds and hacks, accurate to –20 > +40 sec/day, so if you use watches for time keeping you’ll re-set this one twice per week. Miyota 8-series movements are entry level but this one is fully skeletonized so you can see everything in motion, with gilding and blue painted screws. Fancy. The second hand is indirectly driven and if you give the watch a good thump, it (the second hand) will freeze for one second and then jump ahead two seconds, which collectors call “Miyota stutter.” No one will notice but you. Fossil is a fashion brand that buys parts which are assembled by some low-bidding contractor. So keep your paperwork in order for return to Woot if you get a bad one.
Excellent review. Thanks for the detailed feedback.
$159.99 does not seem like an especially great price for a discontinued “fashion brand” skeletonized automatic with a pretty middling, widely used movement.
My former employer used to hand out Fossil watches with our corporate logo on the face as anniversary awards and I acquired a few of them over the years. Each was noted for being primarily form over substance: pretty faces and cases with mediocre movements. Just like this one appears to be.
