The “deal”: is it or isn’t it? You decide…

Does anyone know if you can switch the sim card to a tmobile one?

Are the phones unlocked? Or are they locked to FreedomPop?

The phones work over CDMA networks, so I’m guessing they’re not unlocked in the sense that you could swap out a SIM card and bring to another country. It’s weird that this isn’t mentioned in the specs.

I recognize that coverage map, it’s Sprint’s network. So if you have great Sprint service, you’ll have good coverage with FreedomPop.

The truly free plan is 500 MB a month of 4G Wi-Max data ONLY. If you don’t live in a Wi-Max market you won’t qualify for that plan.

The next cheapest plan on the site is just $3.99/month, for 500 MB data and unlimited talk and text on the 3G and 4G Wi-Max networks, so if you’re OK with Sprint’s dialup-like 3G speeds and a small amount of data, this might not be a bad deal.

And since Sprint is CDMA, it will not be compatible with GSM networks like T-Mobile and AT&T.

Coverage map link is dead. Any ideas? IIRC this runs on WiMax?

The EVO 4G & Galaxy S II connect to Sprint’s 3G and 4G WiMax networks. You can check out coverage by going to www.freedompop.com/retail/coverage. The iPhone connects to Sprint’s 3G and LTE networks. Check coverage at www.freedompop.com/coverage3g4g.

You are good!

SO what do you do in a few months when sprint turns off the WiMax for good? “for life” means nearly nothing.
So you have to submit a real email to see the map?
To view the coverage map for the EVO 4G & Galaxy S II, go to www.freedompop.com/retail/coverage. For the iPhone 5, go to www.freedompop.com/coverage3g4g. No email address required

does anyone know if the service is good for dallas, mainly northern cities?
I entered my address in the website, and it continued, saying there was “coverage”
I might get the s2.
edit, also, do i need a sim card? I dont think so since sprint has the no sim card thing
since voice mail is extra, if i dont get it, does it just not come, my phone voice mails alot, but I dont really use it.

Will the phone use freedom pop data even while connected to a wifi network? Can these connection to wifi?

Yes, the phones can connect to WiFi! No data is used from your 500MB allotment when you’re connected via WiFi.

Are the phones locked or unlocked? The iPhone 5, even when used for CDMA, still does allow for a Sim cars AFAIK.

The phones are locked, as they can only connect to Sprint’s network within the US.
