From the pictures it looks like “genuine” “vegan leather”, which is a term I’ve seen growing in popularity on the mothership. Yeah, plastic.

For whatever it’s worth, according to the product questions associated with the linked Amazon item, Gallaway Leather claims:
The outside is genuine leather. The inside is PU (Polyurethane) leather.

The term “genuine leather” is a catch-all term used for various forms of leather construction and is “natural leather” in its lowest level of quality and construction. There is no official definition or certification. Caveat emptor.
The exterior is likely created from “split leather”, the lowest layer of the hide which is then given a polyurethane coating and artificial markings. It may also be constructed from bonded layers of hide and embossed with a similar leather-like texture. Both methods of construction are commonly marketed as “genuine leather”. Neither reach anywhere near the quality of “full grain” or “top grain” leather construction.

I’m wondering if you were shipped the wrong item. These are from Amazon and per their page, it is supposed to be genuine leather.
Regardless, customer service will help you with the return.
I completely agree with you and thought the same. This item really was very misleading.
