A good portion of the 6as have been admitted by Google to have a battery issue. One of the two we purchased had the battery swelling issue six months ago. Of course I paid the deductible for a warranty claim six months ago. Assuming these qualify, Google is offering to replace the battery, a $150 store credit, or $100 cash. Your choice. Though the cash payout is a whole complicated process involving giving your SSN to a third party company. I was able to claim the $150 Google store credit for both of ours. Allegedly it will stack with Google store promos, though I’ve read that it didn’t in the past. Just keeping things interesting.
Seconing this. Once you reach 400 charge cycles on a 6a phone your battery will be nerfed. Not sure if Google will continue offering the replacement/money deal to new buyers.
Yes absolutely people should Google Google Pixel battery appeasement programs.
The Pixel 4a 6a and 7A all had forced updates that broke some of their features and battery life. The only one I owned was the Pixel 4a but it rendered it practically useless.
not every model of course. but it does add a lot of complicating variables if you’re buying something on the resale market. some people have successfully replaced the batteries or you might be able to see if the phone is eligible for one of these appeasements but…
frankly if it were me and you want an older pixel I would probably avoid the ones that have been impacted by the battery appeasement program. you could probably get the Pixel 6 pro or Pixel 7 or something for a similar price.
some people have asked about buying a Pixel 4a and flashing a custom ROM but even then I tell him if you really want an old pixel in that form factor maybe you look into the pixel 3 or the pixel 5a or something.
The battery appeasement probe
I think it’s based on IMEI so if the IMEI is eligible and no one’s picked up the appeasement they would technically be eligible. but there’s a lot of variables I would probably just find a different used pixel one that was not part of these appeasement programs if someone really wants one.
it’s a shame these are cool phones. but it’s an unpleasant experience to get an email saying there’s going to be an update that cuts your battery life in half in 2 days and there’s nothing you can do about.
The whole thing was kind of a debacle
I had a 6a and I was happy with it until that update, where it started draining battery like crazy just sitting there. I took the cash and process went fine. I would not buy another one of these after that experience.
