Needs direct sunlight to charge, but it works great. Went camping over a long weekend, and we had a mostly shaded campsite, so it only got a couple of hours of sunlight in the morning to top off, but because of the big battery, that was plenty. We used the light for three nights and the fan a lot (it blows the mosquitos off course), and it stayed above 50% charge the whole time. Two thumbs up!
