Have you ever met someone with one of those Cold War bomb shelters?

Rich people have some of the craziest sh*t :joy:

In my hometown, there was a family that had one. It has supposedly been destroyed(about 30 years ago) but the enormous concrete door is visible from the street. The door appears to be open a few inches but its covered in vines.

Congress had a bomb shelter during the Cold War located in West Virginia called PROJECT GREEK ISLAND

Above Ground elegance (your tax dollars at work)

What lies below? Why a 25 ton blast door leading to a subterranean shelter for about 1000 people

Where Congress would meet

For @lioncow and others interested - Green Briar is a functioning resort.

How what is beneath was intended as the most secure underground structure in the mid-Atlantic states
With room for 1000 people and 40 days worth of food, a medical facility, early ICU, Congressional auditorium, and decontamination hallway

Washington Post blew its cover and the bunker was then decommisioned.

There’s a movie called Blast From the Past with Brendan Fraser that is all about his father’s bomb shelter underground. It’s hilarious.

I want one of those bomb shelters with a back porch from which I can watch the nuclear glow at night.
