Apparently, credit for “Cool Beans” is 1) pioneered in the 1970s by Cheech and Chong and 2) used Ad nauseam in the 80-90s by Full House’s DJ Tanner.
I have used it. It was likely in a sarcastic or less than euthanistic way. Maybe if someone else is excited about something and wants me to join in, and yet, I am not feeling it, so I said, “Cool beans.” The phase distracts the person from what they are ecstatic about, or at least their response to the “cool beans” gets us to move on.
Just a word to those who are anti “Cool beans”: there is a utility of distraction.
