This is a pretty light tennis racquet, which leads me to believe, it should be fine for beginners.

the line of microgel racquets were designed with intermediate(USTA rated 4.0 and up) players. They are recommended for players with developed strokes. This is a good buy.

Why no bigger grip sizes? I’d be in if you had a racquet for the big boys.

I read this as “MicroGel heated Tennis Racquet”. My first thought was- Why would people play tennis in the cold anyway? It’s all becoming clear now, though.

I purchased this last month for $39.99 and it was strung. Comes with a case (as shown in pictures) and is super light. I have yet to use it, unfortunately (still chilly here). I’m debating on buying another one for my gf since this is such a great buy!

My GF is thinking about picking up some tennis this spring. Would this be a suitable racquet for a beginner?

I’m bummed because I’m at work and don’t remember what size grip I need. Tempted to go with the smaller one to be safe (it’s easier to make it thicker than it is to make it thinner).
Is 4 3/8 really big for grip size?

no, as far as I know, those two sizes offered are in the smaller end for tennis racquet. I am petite (5’1" and 105 lb) and I use 4 1/4" as well as my 13 yr. old son who is in smaller frame than his friends. My hand is about 6 1/2" long from the wrist to the tip of mid. finger.

Thanks. Mine’s about 7 1/2", so if I get anything I guess I should get the bigger one…

No. This racquet is for intermediate players. Beginners will find it difficult to make good shots.

just talked with a rep from head. this is a early 2000’s model and they had some conflicting info on it compared to the woot info. they said according to their info it is a head light vs a head heavy as listed. grommets are still available for those who will re-string. it comes with the standard synth gut string. this was a made for costco racquet they said and last was retailed for 49.99 at costco in store. that was about all the info they could find in the computer and said it is comparable to the microgel monster model spec wise though that is a 102sq head vs this 100sq.

My hand is slightly larger and I use a 4 1/2. 4 3/8 should be perfect for you. Don’t get the 4 1/4, it will turn in your hand when you hit your forehand.

Between my wife and I we have about 9 racquets and every size you could imagine.

Thank you! I was concerned that this was not even on the Head site, and then saw the old costco links in my searches. You saved me the time of doing all that legwork though. Although they are always coming up with “new” technology, there is nothing wrong with a 10 year old design. HOWEVER, it’s a cheap racquet at a cheap price, not really a deal.

Personally, I wouldn’t know why not. All the reports on here are that it’s light. I have found when working with beginners that you just want to make sure the racket isn’t too heavy, the grip is the right size, and the racket isn’t too big for the person (teaching a child might require a junior sized racket). My main concern with a beginner is to not pay too much for the racket because a beginner is going to scratch it up on the court quite a bit and if they decide never to play again, you haven’t wasted a bunch of money on something that will collect dust in a closet somewhere.
