Many of the reviews mention what should be obvious: this knife is NOT “67-layer damascus steel” as claimed. Instead, it has a fancy pattern etched into its surface. I own Damascus knives; some of my friends have made them in smithies; one of my friends is a metallurgical engineer who goes on at length about steel phase diagrams and types. This isn’t damascus-style steel.
That alone gives me pause, like when you notice your new car is actually a “Toyoto”, not a Toyota, and also the paint job rubs off on your hands.
One of the reviews complains that it’s very bendy. Duh. It’s a fillet knife, meant to bend as you cut along a fish’ spine. That’s actually a positive.
All of this together: it’s “marked down” from a suspiciously super-high price to a still-higher-than-market price for an average fillet knife, and the description is a lie.
