$495 on the mothership. 8gb ram bothers me a little and getting information from hp is like pulling teeth but these ship standard with 2x4gb sticks almost certainly upgradable to 2x8gb (16GB) and according to Crucial 2x16gb (32gb)

Seems like the display resolution is a bit behind current standards and standard RAM is inadequate but upgradable
I feel that the market for 17" non-gaming laptops is pretty much for folks who want a larger screen for ease of reading. Resolution just needs to be “sufficient” for that audience.
- At 17", the market isn’t for travelers or business, as they will value portability.
- Desktop replacement for a telecommuter – a smaller laptop + docking station with a regular mouse/keyboard/monitor at each end provides better productivity.
- K-12 students – Chromebooks.
Just IMHO …
