I love my hp laptops. Our family has own 6 going back to a 13.3" from 2001 running Windows 2000 with an AMD K6 processor. I have always had good luck with them personally. My daughter destroys all hers which in terms of the HP helps because they usually put their service manual online somewhere for repairs and parts. It isn’t just HPs. I picked up an Acer one two years ago (her “mini”). It is on its 3 screen now. kid kills me. (pretty spoiled though. Has a DV4000 15.6", DV7 1200 17", acer one, lg optimus and kindle fire. I maintain them all on our home server.

Here is a link to the service guide for that model:

I think what I like most about them is the keyboard. I am a computer scientist and my daughter is a writer so we know our keyboards.

I too love love love the feel of the keyboards on HP laptops. I’ve tried lots of laptops in lots of stores, & HP keyboards rule.

I can’t stand the look of Windows 8. What were they thinking? Why would I want my desktop/laptop to look like a smartphone?

Too much for a slower Dual-Core REFURB…

I have been looking around for the best bang in the sub $400 category and recently went with a computer from Wal-Mart of all places.

Compare processors with cpubenchmark.net and you will see that this processor has about twice the performance power as the refurb woot is offering.

If you check the review from the walmart computer they are a little lower but that comes from all the people who hate windows 8’s layout.

Dunno about this model, but I am using an almost 5 year old HP Pavilion laptop, and have been since I bought it. Never a problem. I have had it hooked up to a desktop monitor, a keyboard and mouse, so have only actually opened it a few times. Plus, I don’t clog up my hard drive, I am using about 62 GB out of the 221 GB drive.

Because, in two years, no laptop will be made without a touch screen (and probably removable/tablet screen) and you’ll be like, “Wow, how come no one else has the same interface across every device I use.”

There is a bit of a transition for those laptops and desktops without touch, but, even at that, Windows 8 is EASIER to get to the apps you use than any previous version of Windows.

As for this deal, it appears to be the same HP laptop as offered a few days ago for $30 less, but with half the memory as that and a smaller disk drive.

I missed that one as it sold out on me. This one probably suits the purpose of replacing my mother-in-laws 9-year-old model and giving her more than she needs and had I not seen the HP model a few days ago I would have already bought. But now I have to think if I want to wait a few more days hoping the good one comes back :).

This is true, either a touch screen or other gesture control mechanism. HP and ASUS have already teamed up with Leap Motion to provide integrated gesture control into future laptops.

Might actually be half way decent if you maxed out the ram and tossed the garbage 5400 drive for an SSD.

But then again, you’re still stuck with a low res / no touch display.

When you order from Woot and send to another address as a gift is the price included on the invoice/packing slip? Is there an option for gift?

We don’t have a gift option. However, this is being drop shipped and won’t have an invoice in the box.

Items that ship from FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) have a packing slip but no price.

PS: I reserve the right to be totally wrong but that’s been my experience.

You guys do realize that the metro look for windows 8 is just the start menu right?
I blame poor advertisement but i swear so many people have incorrect ideas about win8.
98% of my time is spent on the exactly the same desktop as win7 but now when you click on the bottom left for the start menu instead of a quarter of the screen pop-up its just full screen and cool. You dont need touch screen in anyway for it to work well. Win8 (when im on start menu) works wonderfully both with my touchpad and with my mouse.

I am typing this on the what appears to be the Pentium B980 counterpart to the one shown, the Pavilion G7 2251dx. It rocks. Great keyboard, and a pretty decent screen. I got mine refurbed from Micro Center in Tustin, CA for $309.99. You can’t beat that, particularly considering that my last HP 17" (DV 9000) cost close a grand and wasn’t this attractive or versatile. IF you do spring, get 4 more GB of RAM at least. While it runs well on 4 GB, it’s twice as good with 8. See what I did there?

For future reference where do i look to see where something is shipped from, like FBA in this case?

Really excited this popped up today. My husband’s computer is pretty much shot (I think 6 or 7 year old Gateway, and it apparently failed in the BIOS screen today).

He said the one comparable model on HPs site was about $200 more and had less features. (I think this is the correct link?)

Either way, very excited that we found this in our budget before his laptop dies. We were planning on spending at least $450. Also he seems pretty happy about the features although he may strip the hardrive for a faster processor (He doesn’t need that many GB of storage.) Also he works in IT and programming so he knows his stuff.

Also it seems that most negative reviews from HP site are due to W8 problems. He runs Linux so that won’t be an issue.
