HP EliteDesk 800 G6 Mini PC

HP EliteDesk 800 G6 Mini PC

I’m looking to replace an HTPC in my media center. It’s not immediately clear if there is a combo video / audio output here. I know DisplayPort should do the job, but I’d love confirmation that using a DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapter would give me both video and audio to my A/V receiver.

Not this model specifically, but with other Dells and HPs at my work, we’ve done DP->HDMI and the audio passes through to the monitor just fine.

(Note that I am not staff. I just volunteer to help out on the forums.)

To add to what @Narfcake has suggested, while I haven’t used this generation of HP, you should be able to get full audio/video through the DisplayPort, as long as the software that you use is playing nicely, and you are using a solid adapter to HDMI. Intel’s 630 graphics are more than capable for handling HD audio and fairly good video decode and transcode.

For the sake of making sure that things work, I don’t recommend using just the cheapest DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapter. They may work fine, but I prefer to use something that I know and that I trust, like CalDigit. One that I have used for Plex/Emby/Kodi machines is this adapter.

Or, if there are any hiccups with the onboard DisplayPort function, and you don’t get audio working properly, you could adapt USB-C-to-HDMI, which has also worked for me in a few situations. I don’t use this unless the built-in ports have some limitations, but it hasn’t ever failed for me. There are also versions that support HDMI 2.1 within the options from the items that I linked. But for most non-gaming scenarios, the HDMI 2.0 version is fine for UHD 4K, HDR, and full audio

Hope that helps!

Only has one single Sata port. Woof.
