No HDMI port?
Doesn’t look like it. Says in the specs 2x Display port. Would need to get an adapter
just get a display to hdmi cable
Also no AC wifi, N is the max
HP does not list a 2TB SSD for this model. They do list a 2TB SSHD (hybrid). There’s also an NVMe possibility.
Can Woot please confirm which type of drive it is?
There’s also this (OEM) option for adding an HDMI port… https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BKGQJ5B9
It’s a little more pricey than going with an adapter… but might look a little cleaner.
Serious question… what do people do with these types of machines?
It can’t be for grandma who needs something to surf the web, right?
You can get a pretty decent refurb laptop here at the same price for that purpose and it will even include a built-in screen!
What type of user will be looking for an i5 with the extra processing power of another 2 cores?
Also, the WiFi is a USB DONGLE! I’m guessing there will be some piece of rectangular plastic sticking out of one of the USB ports.
I’m told:
It’s a 3P refurbished unit with upgraded parts. It has a 2TB 2.5” SATA SSD.
UPDATE: M.2 NVMe SSD is installed
Home Theater PC upgrade to something that is W11 capable. You are correct, a Core I3 would be fine too.
I would prefer built-in/native WiFi and HDMI, but can adjust. Any USB dongles can hang off the back.
Business stuff. Spreadsheets, accounting, and engineering comes to mind – lots of numbers, little need for graphics power. All while not wanting to spend the money for a new computer.

Thanks!
I kind of feel that a new mini-PC with a lower power CPU but improved hardware decoding on the integrated graphics would be a better proposition for a HTPC. No need for a lot of memory and storage is typically off a NAS anyway.
Intel N95 based minis can be had for under $150. CPU performance isn’t close to the i5-8500 here, but 15w TDP, improved VP9 encoding/decoding and AV1 hardware decoding means much less processing overhead versus CPU decoding.
Update: M.2 NVMe SSD is installed
As a laptop replacement. 99% of my laptop’s use is being moved a few times a year between 2 or 3 locations that each have their own monitor, kybd, mouse, etc. This brick is a reasonable ratio of price to specs compared to a laptop. Repairs and changes would easier depending on how proprietary the internal components are. Size & weight are not primary considerations as it would be tossed into a padded box while traveling.
I need a new computer, Mine is over 10 years old and is very slow at times.
Off the top of my head:
- Motherboard, power supply, and case are proprietary.
- CPU is standard LGA1151-2, but the microcode was not updated to include 9th gen, so it’s 8th gen support only. The subsequent G5 series supported 9th gen.
- Memory is standard desktop DDR4 DIMM. Intel’s memory controller is capped at 2666, JEDEC spec.
- Two M.2 slots for NVMe, one M.2 slot for WLAN.
- SATA ports and PCI-E slots are standard, albeit low-profile cards only.
