I love instant brand and instant pot, specially for their stainless steel pot.
I also believe this is a good product for its purpose.
But, no plastic is safe, especially heated plastic.

It appears that none of the plastic is in contact with the heating element/water bath.

You don’t submerge the whole thing, any more than you would dunk an entire blender in the cookie dough. Only the bottom end is submerged… :man_shrugging:t3:

Probably referring to the the plastic bag that the food is usually cooked in with sous vide. I don’t personally have a concern with that, though.

Seriously, though… I guess some people have never dipped soup with a plastic ladle? Or stirred food with plastic utensils? Hell, quite a few plastics are microwave safe…

Yes there is typically a food safe plastic or silicon bag involved. If that is an issue, you can drop hard veggies into the tank via wire racks or utensils to par cook then finish off with another method.

Or take it camping to boil water for coffee, boil eggs, reheat leftovers, etc.

We would do sous vide but probably not often so we were preparing to take a gamble with some no-nane Amazon item. Snatched this up at a great price.

microwave safe = they will not melt in the microwave

You’ll get BPA or organic compounds with structure similar to BPA that mimics those on your hormones. Also, BPA and similar are the addictive added to the plastic not the main chemical of the plastic. Those who claim safety of the main chemical are misguiding.
You may not directly relate something happening on you to the BPA, but your kids may get small pp.

you can get a newer version instant pot with suis vide for that, a larger one maybe. You get obviously more control.

Another thought, if the contact with the bag is the issue
could wrap your items inparchment paper to provide a barrier then drop into a bag & cook.
Could work with frozen or fresh fish, poultry, meat or even tofu or beans or carrots, etc.
Just not really juicy items.

This would be handy when outside the home as it is only 800 watts & 12.9" x 2.6".

By a cord that plugs into a wall socket.

I hate it when they photoshop things to remove the power cord, but it looks like this thing has a non-detachable power cord.

Go to the mothership and search for B096BDTVHH.
Look at the user ratings and the reviews with pictures.
It looks like it has a non-detachable cord that you plug in the wall.

I didn’t know how this worked (I blame pregnancy brain again for not researching but it was 5am :sweat_smile:) and got one this morning. Then I saw some of the comments & realized that you needed the plastic bags for the foods in order to use it :see_no_evil::woman_shrugging:t2: so I googled it and apparently you can cook without the plastic :pray:t2::raised_hands:t2: I’m glad this was a discussion on here, as I wasn’t sure if I had to return after reading everyone’s comments but this looks like a keeper now. :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ve also seen some cooks just use thicker style ziplock baggies and press out all the air.
