Can I add 1 suggestion to your recipe?
I usually add steel cut oats to a HOT dry pan & lightly toast.
Then add a very small amount of butter (or buttery spray if you use it) 1 pat or less, to lightly coat before adding water.
This gives the oats a toasted, nutty flavor that stands up in the fridge for a few days.
