iRobot Roomba j7+ Robot Vacuum wBase

iRobot Roomba j7+ Robot Vacuum wBase

This is an excellent deal considering it’s backed by a roomba warranty. This model is much better than the previous one that’s on here for $499. Get this one for $299 because the tech in it is way better and it has features to prevent it from spreading fidos dog shit everywhere lol. Their warranty claim also states that if it does happen to run over fidos shit, they’ll replace your roomba for free. It’s on their website. You’re welcome.

I got one from an earlier deal here and pretty happy with this so far. It mapped the entire floor of the house and the cleaning process can be set for a specific place. Since it can travel intelligently, I tucked the whole base into a corner of an empty room. I have a dog gate, so I had to build a little platform for roomba to travel through the gate, which it learned to do. Not right away, took a few days and I had to block a tricky place with a no-go zone (set in the app), but now it manages to squeeze through every time.

About a month ago, I bought a refurbished iRobot model from the company’s eBay store. It came with a 2 year warranty. Unfortunately, I am now having issues with the robot that make me want to return it (glad I still have a couple of days left).

The main problem is that the robot is unable to recognize and avoid one of the table legs in my home office. This table is where I work every day, so I need the robot to be able to clean around and under it without getting stuck. However, the robot keeps bumping into the leg and getting confused.

I have contacted iRobot customer support multiple times to try to resolve this. I’ve called at least 3 times and sent 5 messages to both support and the store. The representatives have suggested that I mark the table as an object to avoid in the settings. However, I’ve explained that this table needs to be cleaned regularly, so I can’t just make the robot avoid it entirely.

Finally, customer support told me the robot is interpreting the table leg as a cliff, which is why it keeps getting stuck and frustrated when trying to clean near it. This is disappointing, since my older Roborock S6 robot was able to handle this same area without issues before I upgraded.

When I asked about replacement options given this functional defect, they informed me that since the robot isn’t showing any error codes, they can’t approve a replacement. So I asked if this “cliff” behavior was considered to be not an issue and was told the robot was fine (!).

I’m disappointed to have spent money on an iRobot that is unable to perform well in my home. The robot constantly getting stuck on a standard table leg that my previous model could handle shows there is some kind of issue. I was hoping customer support could help identify a fix, offer a replacement, or give me a refund, but they have not been able to resolve this problem.

I have heard good things about their support, but calling a robot that is unable to clear a space under the table and suggesting to set it as an avoid zone is unacceptable.

I wonder if putting a strip of white tape along the long side would help it recognize that it’s not a cliff. Or maybe it’s too low profile and the unit can just barely get over it and somehow thinks it’s a cliff as a result. Somehow artificially raising the height would possibly allow it to hit the leg better and see it as an obstacle rather than a cliff. That being said, it’s really dumb that it’s having issues in the first place.

Something I have noticed is that it is very difficult to find a robot vacuum that has a high rating. I generally use an 85% 4/5 stars as a guideline for purchasing anything, but robot vacs are a different beast. For those who have one, is this a good one? I don’t necessarily need the mop feature but, at this price, it seems worth it if this thing isn’t a piece of trash. Opinions/Reviews are welcome and thanks to those who have already responded above with their thoughts.

The Roomba j7+ will take a picture of the leg, then ask you if it should avoid the leg next time. You’ll see red box on your map that rooomba will avoid, so it won’t hit this spot anymore.

As an alternative, you can manually add this no-go spot in the map.

I bought this from an earlier Woot. I had an i7+ but wanted the poop avoidance this one offered. I like this one but noticed sometimes it has trouble identifying the dirt or obstacles if the lighting isn’t optimal, so maybe try playing with that. The previous suggestion of white tape is a good one too. It just needs to “see” the item differently.

This offering is confusing. The text states it is a mopping version but the part number it lists is the non-mopping version( j755920). j755020 is the mopping version. Would be good if whoever is selling this vacuum(can’t be sure it’s iRobot) would clarify. It will be a mess if the buyers expect the mopping version and they get the non-mopping version. I would guess the non-mopping version is the one they are actually selling because the refurbs are routinely at 299. The mopping version is normally much more expensive.

Can someone from woot check on this? This poster is correct — the model number indicates a non-mopping version, but the product description is for the mopping version. Which will we actually receive?

Now the J7+ appears to have been taken down. Maybe they are fixing it?

UPDATE: Looks as if it is fixed. It is the non-mopping model

OOPS

Yep, it’s the non-mopping model. The price was correct; features were not.

We’ll be contacting customers that already purchased.
