We have a similar one, and haven’t put batteries in it for years. Why? Because it ran through them so quickly, we got frustrated with the waste, money, and PITA.
If I could remake the decision, is have gone with a manual, peddle unit.

I had that problem with mine, then I realized it was in the room with washer and dryer and people would lay crap on the lid, that made it try to go up and down constantly until batteries died. Pro tip-dont put crap on the lid!
Bought this on Amazon it doesn’t last long the liquids etc… get caught in the electrical components and cause it to fail life span is around 1 year
Fortunately (unfortunately?), that wasn’t our issue.
