23 oz capacity? A bottle of wine is roughly 25 ounces!
That’s what it says on their site.
Mighty large glasses. It also says this is the size favored by tasting rooms. I’ve been to both public and private tastings in Napa and never gotten a 23 oz. glass. They generally use a very small tasting glass. Maybe these are 3.8 oz glasses x six glasses? That would make more sense as a tasting room glass and it adds to about 23 oz.
I was thinking the Bordeaux Wine Glass is somewhat unusually large, but it’s the largest of wine glasses. I found this info researching:
The Bordeaux Wine Glass has an overall height of 10.43” (26.4 cm) and diameter of 4.25” (10.8 cm). The Bordeaux Wine Glass holds a volume of 33.86 oz (100.1 cl). The Bordeaux Wine Glass is your best choice if you are looking for a wine glass ideal for drinking full-bodied, heavier red wines
Typically, there are about 5 glasses of wine in a standard wine bottle of 750 ml. This calculation assumes that a glass of wine is about 5 ounces of wine. So this Burgundy glass can fit about a full bottle plus another half bottle.
I have wine glasses this big, but I dont like them. They look ridiculous. And I’ve never seen them used in restaurants – even Michelin star restaurants. I’d estimate that most restaurats use a 10-15 oz glasss. The 23 oz is more manageable, but still pretty large for me. And no tasters are using anything that large. I like to pour wine to fill a third of my glass. So most of my glasses are around 15 oz.
But, if you like big glasses, go for it.
