Wow, how incredibly classy. The family at the JanKris Winery has been responding to questions all week not only about this woot, but also about their online store and wine club. I’d hate to see them or any other winery discouraged from getting involved in the forums because of rudeness like this.
Ummm…LOVE the Applejacks! We’re moving to Denver next spring. Looking foward to it!
I agree, totally. Hard to understand how someone could be so rude. On behalf of all the good wine.wooters, I apologize to the JanKris family for this stupidity.
What? I thought it was a compliment.
Are you one of those alternate lifestyle guys?
(USER WAS PUT ON PROBATION FOR THIS POST)
Maybe you meant it as a compliment, and maybe I’m a bit old-fashioned, but I don’t think most fathers want a stranger saying “Yeah, I’d hit it.” in reference to their daughters.
He is named “Yeti” so at least that’s appropriate. IMO … I do appreciate the generally unmodderated forums but Yeti’s still shown himself to be a classless ass####. I’m about as tactless as they come and wouldn’t type out something like that even on my fourth bottle. (did I say “fourth”?) Oh well. that’s the Internet. Don’t let 'em get you down! -EL
Still being rude and stupid, I see.
Get a room, you two.
2004 was a particularly poor year for this appellation. In fact most south/central coast wines were impacted by cooler than normal temperatures, and early frost (Except on some of the southwest facing hills)…
These vintages were blended because of their comparative weaknesses, as blends usually are. It’s not like “Wow this wine was SO good, lets mix it with ANOTHER really great wine and it will be EVEN BETTER…”
So as varietal blends go, JanKris can assemble, though actually I think you’ll find the Picaro as rather flat this early, the Crossfire will present well in a couple of years.
A GREAT alternative to this category of wine, from a far superior appellation would be Navarro Vineyards 2004 Navarrouge. 2004 was much better to the north coast regions than it was further south. Great Ph, low acidity, and a nose that will keep you interested through the entire case.
Navarro Vineyards is located in Philo - about 25 miles in from the Mendocino Coast - other end of California.
Speaking as a resident of Paso, I can tell you that most people in the wine industry here have no interest in being the Next Napa and aren’t acting like Napa in price or tasting room fees. I’ve been to at least 50 Paso wineries and didn’t pay tasting fees at most of them. Most where I have paid tasting fees were well worth the price.
Just like any region, Paso has its fair share of overpriced wine. However, quality wines at reasonable prices can be found at wineries like JanKris, Penman Springs, Dover Canyon, and Adelaida. Garretson and Tablas Creek have pioneered the Rhone styles with really elegant wines, and few wineries in the state can touch the quality of wineries like Le Cuvier and Linne Calodo.
Well, WOOT you got me again… I’m in… the Riatta sounds so good… MMmmmm
Yeah, he’s right. The problem is twofold, I just sent you an e-mail with the details (doesn’t seem right to post it in the forum) it should be a pretty easy fix.
Yes we will count virtual visits.
According to the freethegrapes.org map (http://freethegrapes.org/wine_lovers.html), Alaska is just as blue as all the other states that allow shipping. Still no Woot for us.
Fantastic. Thanks!

Newbie…
on average…whats the shipping time to new york…and how long does it take for the order to actually be shipped from the winery… i am anxious

Wines are usually shipped within 24 hours of when you place the order. then UPS takes about 5-7 days (from CA to NY) - hope that helps and welcome!
Woot! Ordered on Friday or Sat, and received today!
The UPS guy is getting suspicious. All these cuboid (3x3) packages that I have to sign for. He will NOT hand it to me, but insists on setting the package on the ground at my doorstep, even when I reach out to take it from him. Weird. I wonder if that’s policy?
They’re settling in the cooler right now, fighting off advances from the Parker Station bottles, like in those old cartoons where the books come to life…
My six-pack arrived today. All in good shape, no evidence of leakage, no evidence of bulging corks. Cooler weather has its advantages.
Coincidentally my replacement vacuum pump thingie arrived (the first one broke on first use – $8 piece of crap) so this gives me a great opportunity to try one without having to consume the entire bottle. Also it gives me the opportunity to try the vacuum pump thingie to see if it’s all hype. Except for $8 there’s not much hype you’d have to live up to/
I’m starting with the Crossfire, and will report back.
(reporting back later)
The Crossfire is good, but a bit schizo. But that makes it interesting.
It starts soft like a merlot, but quickly goes to a cab-like body, has the spice and pepper of a syrah, and has the lighter sorta sweet finish of a zin but /not quite/.
It’s interesting how these come across distinctly rather than smooshing into each other.
“Crossfire” is a good name.
