How DOES one clean this?

Buy a soft-bristled hat brush, $10 or $12 at the mothership. Brush VERY gently, inside to out, rotate and brush the whole hat once. That removes dust and other surface crud. Any marks remaining can be gently removed with a damp sponge, instructions online. If your hat is soaked in the rain, put it out of sunlight and let it dry completely.
