This is a great, lightweight cover tarp. Might be too thin for heavy ground use, but may work in a pinch.

How does it compare to the Yukon Outfitters rainfly?

Where I camp this would get shredded or bent in no time.

And it doesn’t come with the poles either. So that’s a bit disappointing!

It doesn’t compare. It is so much more for better coverage. Can even be set up as a floor-less tent with end flaps. Yukon rain-fly is a diamond shape when flat This is more if a square with more and better tie-outs. It is heavier though.

Looks like the sides have a catenary cut, can anyone confirm that?

Might make a dandy hammock tarp. I got a couple of the Yukon Outfitter diamond tarps from Woot! last year, and while I like them for their light weight (approx. the same as these), they are 8.5’ long per side, and that little difference between those and these 9’ tarps can really make a difference. I got wet for the first time ever in my hammock because there was a fine rain and a light breeze that blew it under the tarp.

Those were also $10 less, so…

I just noticed something - does this tarp come with the 6 stakes? They look for all the world like MSR Groundhogs, and if they are made the same, that is the best stake I have ever used. They go for almost $3 each in an 8-pack, so that would make this a great deal.

Please confirm, I may just need to buy another tarp (like I don’t have enough of them…)

I was disappointed in the Yukon Rainfly. Mine ripped on the first trip out. I’m in for the Kelty. A well known brand. A 9 for the Hammock fly and a 12 for a campsite fly.

I have one of these, a 12 foot, that I use for motorcycle camping. I do have heavy poles for it that were not included. This is a great tarp for what I need it for. It can be used in so may ways other than between two poles. It has held up in some heavy storms and it a great size to cover a picnic bench too.

These tarps do have a catenary cut.

They are essentially the same. They’re really good quality stakes.

This tarp is excellent for hammock camping. I have the 12 foot tarp, and the thing is huge. I can pitch it either diamond or a-frame, and I get plenty of coverage.

It is somewhat heavy and bulky, but it is definitely worth this price.

This is a screaming deal on a great tarp. I paid the same price for my 12’ Noah that they’re selling the 16’ for. Dog approved!

If you want a good source for cheap poles for these tarps, Cabelas sells steel 8’ adjustable poles for $13 each. That’s what I’m using for mine.

Guylines and decent stakes were included with the Noah as well.

If you have prime, after shipping and everything, woot is $2 cheaper than Amazon on the 9x9 and $5 cheaper on the 16x16. This is 3-8 day shipping vs PRime’s 2 day though. As usual, if you have Amazon Prime, Woot’s deals are not that great.

I see a dog fits comfortably under it. Can a human stand under it?

I have 2 of the Yukon rainflys and 1 Kelty Noahs tarp 12ft that I use for hammock camping. The Yukon rainflys pack into about a quarter of what the 12ft Kelty does. The 12ft is more useful because of all the different ways you can set it up and I feel it is of better quality. But because of the size I tend to use the smaller Yukon rainflys more often and I’ve never had a problem with them, even in a storm I camped through this summer. I have a Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter as my main hammock.

Ordering the 9ft Kelty was a no brained for only $10 more than the Yukon. Hopefully the weight difference is minimal.

Only thing about the Kelty is the bags they come in are terrible.

Depends on how you pitch it. I can stand under the peak when I’m using 8’ poles, and if I guy out the sides to something like trees instead of the ground, it would give you a lot more headroom. They have a lot of pitching options.
