These are really old devices. I’ve stopped buying reconditioned Paperwhite devices because the batteries just aren’t very good any more.

I want to buy my wife a device that can view her manga she reads online all the time, would this work?
were the batteries ever that good? Also out of curiosity, when you bought them did they have ads or ad-free?
