If you haven’t ever tried one of the Paperwhite readers… GO FOR IT! I’ve been reading ebooks since my Palm Pilot days and this is the first reader that finally gets it!
AWESOME battery life. Backlight that lets you read at night (one of my biggest complaints about older units). Crisp text that is easy to read (and multiple size fonts available). You can hold hundreds of books at one time on one of these! (I personally use calibre to manage these books and I currently have my entire Stephen King library, all of the Discworld series, plus hundreds of other sci-fi/horror/fantasy books on it now.
Have I mentioned… GO FOR IT! (you won’t regret it)
I don’t see any compelling reason to replace my old kindle keyboard. I even have a spare ($15.00). I don’t need back lighting. With my bad eyes the resolution is sufficient. The battery still lasts weeks. Are there good reasons to upgrade?
Bigger screen (having to turn pages less often), better contrast between black and white vs black and silver, and built in light vs needing a separate light source. Other than that, not really. Maybe better placement for the page turn buttons. If it hadn’t been stolen out of my car I’d still be using my keyboard…
