You can reset the device and it’ll clear your data. Then, it’ll be ready for whomever to sign in with their own amazon account. When they do, it’ll show up in their devices on the website and populate with all their content/payment info/etc.
Thanks for your answer. I know I can do that but I do not want to open to check, thus giving someone an “open box” item. Was hoping it was not associated with my account, I have 6 Kindles now.

I am pretty sure that if it’s unopened, it’ll require an initial sign in to set up. It might auto- “suggest” your email for that, but I think it can be changed.
If it shows up on the list of your devices in your Amazon account before anyone opens it…just because you bought it, you can disassociate it from there. I had to do that with a couple of firesticks I gave as gifts.
That should cover all the bases.
