Seems like a good deal pricewise. What are the features that the 2022 Signature Paperwhite is missing vs. the 2022 Signature model?
I thought the signature edition came without the adds
I’ve been looking into this today. The big upgrades for this over the standard Paperwhites from 2021 are:
- No Ad Screen
- Adaptive Lighting
- Wireless Charging
- 32GB of Storage
Which makes it a strong central hub for all of your books, audio and written, though for me I don’t know why I’d use a separate device for audiobooks when the Audible app is on my phone.
That is a well-sorted list. I had picked up one of these earlier from Woot, but couldn’t recall what all differed, since I take some bits for granted, and others are just so well integrated that I don’t notice.
For me, I often forget about the wireless charging capability, particularly since I have USB-C everything, and I was just so thrilled to not be shackled to that micro connector anymore. Nice to have, but not huge.
Ad-free is nice, after years of strange titles on my paperwhite lock screen but also not a huge change, since you can buy out of that anyway.
The adaptive lighting and increased storage for audio are both what make this my “ultimate” Kindle so far… Coming from a paperwhite, the change may not seem like a big deal since you could manage brightness easily, but I love not having to worry, and the uniformity is noticeably improved from my 2014. And the audio storage is great because now my phone can do the audiobook when I want it to (like connected to the car audio on a trip), but otherwise I can let the Kindle battery be the one to deplete while out and about. This has taken some time to adapt to using, but once you find your balance, it can be nice to not have to worry about your phone running out of juice when you’re listening to your books/podcasts. Switch depending on what you need at the moment.
I’m a huge fan of this Kindle model, and it has helped me come back from not liking a Voyager that I had for a while, and from trying out a family member’s Oasis, which also wasn’t quite fitting the bill. Lots to love, and plenty nice-to-have features that don’t quite match my use case.
Hope that helps!
